•Save this upper body workout for the next time you need something quick with minimal equipment!• . -Bicep curls (can do wide curls too) keep elbows glued to your sides and your core tight -Band pull aparts (back) -Lateral Raises (shoulders) can do front raises as well as 45° raises too. In 1 week I’m heading back to the beach for a leadership retreat with my team! On this retreat, we are playing a game called “Favorite Things!” Basically you choose what your favorite thing is and you bring 3 of them, then you go around and explain your favorite thing, why it’s your favorite, and 3 different people will get one! It’s fun, sometimes hilarious, and a cool way to really get to know each other even more. Last year My favorite thing was a scratchy blanket. If you know my family, you know we call the blankets with the silky edges “scratchy blankets” because we scratch the silky part with our fingers to fall asleep. I know, weird. But all us women in my family can’t sleep without one 😂 So I loaded up 3 blankets and took them on my retreat last year! This year I have a new fav! I don’t think anybody will guess what it is, but if someone guesses correctly, I’ll send you a prize for my prize box. Guys At a Desk All Day Save Your Lower Back With This Tip ⁣ ⁣ I need to stretch more. I hear this from nearly 100% of my clients. But the idea of stretching seems like a chore. It’s boring, I don’t feel like doing it, but the problem is you’ve built it as too much resistance. You’ve painted it as It’s this big thing I have to do, I know I should do, but you continue to ignore it. So how do you break through and actually stretch? The floss your tooth approach. ⁣ ⁣ Similar to stretching, most people ignore flossing. They know they should be doing it, BUT the ramifications of not flossing are slow and hard to identify, just like stretching. So to start flossing tell yourself I’ll just floss one tooth, which has a lot less resistance than flossing all of your teeth, and inevitably what happens is you end up flossing all of your teeth. So, rather than tell yourself I’m going to do this big stretching routine, pick out one move, let’s say Cat Cow, and just do that for 1 minute. That may lead into going into hitting a minute of pigeon on each leg, and then a minute of couch stretch on each leg and so on. ⁣ ⁣ And if you could do that consistently that would be a huge win in the battle against time at the desk. Couch stretch, pigeon, cat cow, supine extended leg across, mid back breathing over the foam roller, and the bretzel are my favorites for mitigating back pain. But the key is not to tell yourself that you have to do all of them, pick out one and hit it for 1 to 2 minutes. Your building the habit of stretching and consistency is most important. Legs, legs and more legs. Sorry not sorry 🤷🏼‍♀️ I had about 30 minutes to get a workout in so there was no time for crazy set ups or lots of equipment. So we’re keeping it simple with a few bands and a medicine ball. • > crab walks > lateral walk, feet turned in (targets your glutes, A LOT 🔥) > squats > pop squats with Chest press > pop squats touch > squat pulse to jump • Take your time on the first 3 exercises and spend about a minute on each before going through it 2-3 times and then moving on to the higher intensity ones. For me hiit is the best way to go and especially adding in some smaller weights to do a resistance based circuit! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 💪🏼 EACH exercise should have a 1 minute window to be completed in and all exercises are performed back to back in a circuit style. For example you have 1 minute to do exercise 1, whatever time is left after you complete all reps is your rest before the next exercise, the faster you work, the longer you rest! 4 exercise sets in total, 4 minutes work, repeat 5 times for a 20 minute HIIT session 🔥 @nuttyfoodiefitness . ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. 10 per leg Reverse lunge with side lateral raises 2. 12 Burpees 3. 10 per arm commandos 4. 10 per arm kettle bell swings

The end of last week was hard. My vertigo came back hard and workouts were a no go. Only 3 days, 3 workouts left. This was not a time to push through so I listened to my body and gave it the down time it needed. That's part of my self care. Knowing when and where I need to ease up. It helped. A lot. And today I was able to come back just as strong and finish my program. I'm still in awe of what I've accomplished over the past 3 weeks. Not just physically, but emotionally and mentally. My mindset has shifted from "can I get through this" to "I can get through this". I paid even more attention to my mood, to what I was feeling, to what's impacting me. And not just with my workouts. It's true for my nutrition too. I became even more mindful of what I ate, when I ate, and why. All this in a 3 week program. This week, I'm switching up my workouts and starting another 3 week program on April 29th. I'm looking forward to Monday.

Do you start each week intentionally? Might sound like a silly question but, if we aren’t deliberate or intentional, we can easily go off the rails with our goals. So how can we stay on track? . 🙌🏻 1. Don’t overwhelm yourself by focusing on too much when it comes to your goal. In other words, don’t try to focus on doing ALL the things if you are just starting out. Find one or two things you’d like to work on this week. . 🙌🏻 2. Plan ahead. “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” That means planning for what obstacles might come up through the week and how you’ll handle them. If you know you have a long day out, pack food! If not, you could easily make poor choices when you’re very hungry. . 🙌🏻 3. Track your progress. This doesn’t just include long term goals over the month or year. Track your progress through the week so you can celebrate your successes and reassess where you might need to make a change. . 🙌🏻 4. Get support and encouragement. It’s easier to stay motivated when you have positive, supportive people around you. Find a success partner or accountability buddy! . 🙌🏻 How are you heading into the week? So just a couple of weeks ago i was extremely discouraged in the gym. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was sick of my routine and felt like I wasn’t seeing the results I so desperately wanted. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What helped me get through? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I searched through all of the random training information in my brain and i remembered something that i had clearly forgotten. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Muscle is created by little tears in your muscle fibers (which is why we experience soreness and makes rest days so important). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When those baby muscle rips heal up, they heal STRONGER 💪🏼 So what did i do? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Every time I’d work a muscle group, I’d use a weight range that gave me such a burn i can almost picture the fibers pulling apart. (Let’s not pull or tear something now...) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But my point is... if you’re not seeing results and you want muscle growth in the gym, ask yourself if you’re working with a weight that will require recuperation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🚨Signs you ARE NOT training heavy enough 🚨 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. You’ve been working out regularly & consistently for over a year and aren’t seeing results ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. When you finish a set, you feel like you can go right into your next set without a little break ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. You don’t feel the BUUUURN 🔥 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. You can do 12+ reps of your exercise, 4+ sets of your exercise, or 5+ exercises on a body part (my golden rule of thumb) ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The moral of the story? 💦CARDIO w/ EQUALIZERS💦 Who loves these things? 🙋🏻‍♀️ . I use these @lebertfitness equalizers in my bootcamp classes all the time. They are so versatile and a great addition for both strength and cardio training. I had some time last Friday (as you might remember from my last post 🤪) to play around with them and this is what came of it. . To turn these moves into a quick 16 minute HIIT workout: Set a HIIT timer (I use Seconds app on my iPhone) for 12 intervals of 1 minute work to 20 seconds rest. Do all moves for 1 minute resting 20 seconds before moving on to the next move. Go all out in that minute!!! You will be repeating each move 3 times. . A good one to start the week with after not doing legs since last Monday oops. I’m noticing that I’m increasingly getting obsessed with trying variations of movements and reps. Since I’m not using heavy weights (for back squats, leg press, dls, etc), I have to do more reps or increase my TUT to really feel my muscles working. Doing more leg days with lighter weights but more reps/TUT has been shaping my legs more than when I just do heavy lifts, and honestly not mad bout it! Heavier lifts are great for gaining strength, but the change has been nice. ✨KETTLEBELL LEG DAY + ANNOUNCEMENT✨ The gym’s been packed lately - I don’t know if it’s because everyone realized it’s almost summer and started panic-exercising or what...but I am NOT here for it. 🙅‍♀️ I mean I’m glad we’re all getting healthy and whatnot, but what can I say I like my space! I snuck away to one of the empty group exercise room to get some legs in and only brought a kettlebell with me. This was a quick, effective workout you can do anywhere you can get your hands on a weight (kettlebell or dumbbell would work fine). Perfect for home or for a minimally stocked gym (ie. crappy apartment/hotel gym). 💪 Let’s get it! 1️⃣Kickstand deadlift - 3x10 (each leg) 2️⃣Sumo deadlift - 4x12 3️⃣Front rack squat - 4x10 (alternate arms each time) 4️⃣ KB swing 4x12 5️⃣Regular deadlift - 4x10 6️⃣Alternating reverse lunges - 4x 20 And last but not least I am SO SO SO excited to tell you guys I am officially a @Ryderwear athlete! 🥳 Seriously in LOVE with this long sleeve crop from their seamless line 🙌 If you have a muscular back or bigger arms I’d recommend considering sizing up - i’m wearing a Medium in this and it fits PERFECTLY. ❓WHICH PERSON ARE YOU❓ I’ve loved seeing these pictures on people’s newsfeed. I’m not sure who I can give credit to the picture for but I completely agree!! Are the the person that: 1) had an Easter egg yesterday & enjoyed it? 2) had the Easter egg but felt guilty after it 3) had all the eggs to get them out of the house because you didn’t trust yourself 4) didn’t indulge because if you did you didn’t know if you could stop! I know a mixture of all of the above people & for some it’s just exhausting. A little tip I do is ask myself how much will satisfy me? If that is a piece I have the piece, if that’s half the egg then I have half the egg etc etc. But what I do is put the rest of the egg away & then enjoy what I am eating because this was my choice to eat it!! This change of mindset doesn’t happen overnight & I have definitely gone back & eaten more of the egg but with practice & confidence in myself I have definitely got much better!! Battling to find time to train? ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Work meetings, school pick-up, social get togethers, your diary is jam packed, how are you supposed to fit exercise into your busy schedule along with everything else, too? ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ YES you do have time to exercise!! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Here are a few ways to beat the most common excuse for skipping the gym⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 1️⃣ Make exercise an appointment. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Fitting exercise into your busy schedule is just about making the commitment and sticking to it. Lock in an hour three or four times per week for exercise, treat that hour just as you would any other appointment. ⁣⁣ 2️⃣ Efficiency⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Workouts don’t have to be an hour long. Try doing shorter workouts, like HIIT, Tabata, or circuit training. You can do workouts that are 30min and get the same result as if you were in the gym for hours. You will most likely feel more energized, confident, and ready to give it your all.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 3️⃣ Make use of your down time ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ If you have time to chill on the couch, you should also have the time to fit in a few Ab moves or a sneaky HIIT workout. “I thought about giving up, then I remembered who was watching” ———————————————————————— We went on a 🐘 WILD ADVENTURE! 🐅 It was such a beautiful warm SpRiNg Day & what a better way to get some cardio on then pushing two 20lb babies @balach_twinkies with all there belongings around the ZOO! 🚨 Feeling **excited** this morning!🚨 ============================================== I’m reflecting on how I saw two previous patients continuing to exercise following there plan of care with me at the gym yesterday. As a Physical Therapist there are many ways that you can define success with a patient This may be getting a patient out of pain, how quick a patient gets out of pain, getting a patient back to what ever they love, etc.. I didn’t realize this when I first wanted to get into Physical Therapy, but I’m very fortunate to have the ability to spend a lot of time with patients compared to many other health care professionals I believe with this comes greater responsibilities to make meaningful change in not just someone’s pain but in their overall health and lifestyle habits I define success(more for someone who was originally sedentary) as getting them out of pain and empowering them to see the benefits of movements and healthy lifestyle habits So when I’m at the gym and see past patients now incorporating exercise and still using the tools I gave them, it puts a big smile on my face to know I made a significant impact on the person.

It’s “FUN! Friday”, as my 7 year old always says. And one more plank variation. The diagonal knee tuck. . This week’s been about the plank on JBird and different ways to do it. So here’s one more to send you off into the weekend. . Start in traditional plank and alternate bringing one knee to your opposite elbow. Look to keep the upper body as stable as possible and rotate from your mid section. . You can either time it it for 60 seconds or count your way up to 20, just make sure to work evenly from side to side. . FUN variation to work the whole core! .
