Have you met my friend Tatjana? She is the owner of Healthy Mama on Lesperance rd in Tecumseh. If you haven't been yet you are misding out. Healthy Mama is one of my favorite Vegan and gluten free restaurants in the area! Most foods are organic whenever possible and you know that real care goes into creating each and every meal. The meals are truly creative, delicious and healthy to say the least. Breakfast, soups, salads even burgers and somevof the best desserts ever are available and like most people may think, I have never left feeling hungry or unsatisfied. Not a vegan? That's ok, there are lots of choices on the menu for everyone. Healthy Mama also has a large retail area packed with hard to find superfoods, gluten free pastas and supplements, no need to look online, healthy mama probably has it. I love visiting for lunch or weekend brunch because I know when I do I can be sure the meals I choose will still be healthy, guilt free and enjoyable. Apple spice won on my poll of pumpkin or apple spice, so here it is! (I posted a pumpkin recipe a couple posts back so you pumpkin lovers won too) These are apple spice energy balls. Full of healthy fats, carbs and protein. I have 2-3 of these for a snack and they keep me full for a couple hours. Here’s the recipe 👇🏼 — •2 cups oats •1 apple, grated •2 tbsp chia seeds •2 tbsp almond butter •1/2 cup medjool dates •1/2 cup walnuts •1 tbsp cinnamon Throw everything into a food processor and pulse until it all comes together. You can test if it’s done by taking some between your fingers and seeing if it sticks together. If you find it’s too dry, you can add in a splash of almond or cashew milk, but not a lot because you don’t want to mushy or liquidy. Roll into balls (makes about 25) and store in the fridge for up to one week. A quick and easy snack to just grab and go! 🍎🍂

Turmeric, black pepper & ginger play so nicely together & then if you add the healthy fats of coconut oil you have a soothing, nourishing hot cuppa goodness that will alleviate headaches & inflammation throughout the body. I'm adding 2 curcumin tablets for that extra turmeric power along with a little prayer that this wee headache passes asap. . If you are lucky enough to have saurkraut or pickles on your plan. Make sure you get the good stuff. Most grocery store brands, think Bicks or Vlassic or Heinz products have been pasteurized removing all the benifical probiotics and can even have added sugar. A good quality fermented vegetable needs only 3 ingredients, veggie, water and salt. This particular is made locally and can be found at Brandners Farm on Walker road in Windsor. Smaller grocery store or even the natural foods section in Superstore tend to carry it. A year ago I broke my ribs 3 times and then when healed broke my finger. What a year to say the least! I couldn’t work out properly for 6 months. This was not easy for me. As a follow up to my previous post, I stuck to my word & did a workout! . And now it's time to #refuel!! . It's important to follow up exercise with adequate #protein - for muscle repair & growth + essential amino acids the body uses in countless ways - & my go to lately for a delicious #veganprotein #smoothie is @GenuineHealth #fermentedveganproteins #notanad . While my exercise today was short & sweet, - it was more than I did yesterday! - & since I practice #intermittentfasting I was able to work out in a fasted state (while being highly hydrated) which optimizes #fatburn! . I was also able pack in handfuls of #babyspinach + a dollop of #nutbutter for those #healthyfats. . What's your go to protein for after your workouts, ya know, assuming you did your workout 😉 .

It's #week3 of my 4 Week #holisticnutrition #weightlossprogram & is the week that we focus on #exercise & moving your body & getting that heart pumpin'!! . But I have to confess, #workingout is my personal struggle when it comes to my health! & #thestruggleisreal I know every single reason WHY I should be working out REGULARLY, & not just in the bursts that typically happen for me. . And here I am this week, preaching to the participants of my #weightlossprogram - as well as all of my other clients - the how/why/when/what they should be doing in moving & strengthening their bodies in order to see healthy results, yet, it's something that I don't practice myself. #hypocrite . Well, here I am openly confessing it. And now you know! . But I'm not going to leave myself to feel shame about this because that's not helpful or healthy & I know that YOU struggle with this too; it's not just me. OR, maybe you do crush a 5k run 4+ times a week but then binge on a box of donuts because you believe #youearnedit whelp, that's flawed logic to the same degree that thinking that healthy eating on its own will make you healthy. . I also want to emphasize that having the "right gear" (#fitbit, cute workout clothes, etc.) is not a requirement for exercise, especially at home. While I appreciate my Fitbit, it has not enhanced my workout (quite the opposite, it has really helped my understanding of my sleep, but that's a different topic) & as for workout clothes, I am more likely to do a workout if I don't first have to wrestle myself into a sports bra, and can just take a brisk walk around my neighbourhood, do some squats, planks, push-ups or yoga poses. Simple stuff. . It doesn't have to be glamorous or complicated, you just have to do it!! . So, in writing this, I seem to have convinced myself that I have #noexcuses for not getting a workout in, right.now. so upon posting this I will be doing just that. . . . . #weightlossjourney #bodypositive #confessions

Now that it’s been a couple weeks back to school, I thought I’d do a post on store bought snacks you can pack for your kids (or yourself) for when you just don’t have time to make or prep snacks. There are good brands out there!! You just have to still be mindful of the ingredients and take the extra few seconds to look at the back of the box. A 16-year study following ~ 70,000 participants demonstrated that individuals with the highest intake of anti-inflammatory foods compared to the lowest intake had a lower risk of all-cause, cardiovascular disease and cancer mortality. Interestingly enough, the anti-inflammatory foods included in the study were: fruits and vegetables, tea, coffee, whole grain bread, breakfast cereal, low-fat cheese, olive and canola oil, nuts, chocolate, moderate amounts of beer and wine. Pro-inflammatory foods included were unprocessed and processed red meat, organ meats, chips and soft drinks.
