3 ways to progressively overload for gains. 1. Increase intensity (more weight) - in my second video I incline benched 90lbs for a set of 6. This was max intensity for my 140 lb bodyweight. 2. Increase volume (more reps at relatively equal weights) - this would be doing the same weight from 6 to 8 reps, or doing more sets, over time 3. Form - I tried maxing out muscle ups for the first time in a while and my form got shaky after rep 8 but it was still cleaner than I did last year. Last year I was doing 15 reps with a knee kick but I know my form is much better now. Happy birthday to me! @TayStewart1990 designed a great workout for my 40th. A lot of my favourite movements and finishing with some exhausted strength work. It was nice to see the members show up and suffer for/with me 5 rounds 50m prowler sprint @70# 100m farmer carry @32kg 8 sandbag clean & jerk @150# Then 10 mins for 1rm strict press Managed to get a nice strict press at bodyweight (85kg), and some ugly ones up to 202, which, considering the workout before and the last time I used a barbell, I am very happy with. Had to mute the sound as Instagram wouldn’t let me post because of the background music, so you don’t get to hear my angry grunts either If you pay attention, you will notice I drop the sandbag on myself on the first rep. Backsquat 285 lbs (2.1x bodyweight) for multiple sets of single reps before moving on to lighter weights. I haven't been going excessively heavy on squats because of lack of stability, the need for higher volume and variety. Hey, if you’re a guy over 40 and want to get your athleticism back you need to get into chinups. Chinups are the ultimate test of your “relative strength.” That means how strong you are for your size. They build your back, biceps and even your core muscles at the same time. You can do chinups with no weight for higher reps or add weight and grind out a few reps. Each way works… and they work great together. If you struggle now or have always struggled with chinups try this: Lose as much body fat as possible so you don’t have to pull any “extra” weight. Do chirrups 2-3 times per week. If you can’t do a chinup, begin by holding your chin over the bar for as long as you can. The next step is to lower yourself from the bar as slowly as possible. This works the muscles eccentrically. (You are 40% stronger when you lower yourself than when you pull yourself to the bar) Remember, age is a number… Get on it! How many chinups can you do?
