Starting to get more and more solid with those handstand push-ups. Really never thought I would think of my wrists as weak and immobile but working advanced calisthenics exercises taught me exactly that. Ever since I’ve been working on it and still far from done! I love to see my forearms and triceps twitching as they’re giving their all to stop my face from hitting the floor 😵 Great news is it gets easier with every repetition. Climbing back through the Squat ranks. 245lbs for 8 reps. Squats are more challenging for taller lifters because of the farther distance the lower body levers need to travel. I took it down to the take off point in a two foot leap. Just gonna create a steady rate of gain with these to compliment the deadlifts. I'm sure I'll be back to the third plate in no time. KNEE IMPROVEMENTS ** no way I can go into a deep positions but this is a huge progress •• Once to twice a week I set the timer for 25 minutes and just go. 💥Mechanical Advantage💥 . I first learned about the principle of Mechanical Advantage from @strengthsensei1 5 years ago. Which was made popular by Exercise Scientist Jerry Telle. . The Mechanical Advantage Principle means that we start an exercise in a disadvantageous position and move to our most advantageous position throughout the set. Typically resting 10-15 seconds in between changing positions. I love this principle because it allows us to keep the loads high, which works on high-threshold motor units. Or In basic terms, we are not sacrificing relative strength rep ranges (1-6 reps) in efforts to create hypertrophy, giving us the opportunity to get bigger AND stronger (functional hypertrophy). . Let’s take an exercise like pull-ups for example. In most cases we are stronger in a supinated (or underhand) grip and weaker in a pronated (or overhand) grip. In this case, we would start the set with Pronated Pull Ups and finish with a Supinated Grip. A program that implements Mechanical Advantage May look like this ⬇️ . A1) Pull Up Pronated Grip (just outside shoulder). 4 x 2-4 - 30X0 - 15s . A2) Chin Up Supinated (shoulder width) 4 x AMRAP - 30X0 - 15s . A3) Eccentric Only Chin Up Supinated (shoulder width). 4 x AMRAP - 30A0 - 180s . I have used that exact program with myself and clients with great success! However, I have found that it does not even have to be that complicated! We can apply Mechanical Advantage with simply two positions and acquire great results, sparing garbage miles on our bodies. ⬆️ In the video above, you will see the @Nationals relief pitcher @Trosey26 performing Mechanical Advantage with squats. I read that Arnold once had underdeveloped calves relative to the rest of his physique. Instead of hiding it, he cut the lower part of his training pants exposing his weakness for other to see. I have been struggling for years with my leg development (even though some progress has been made), even hiding it with pants. However, no more ! All of our Middle school and Highschool Athletes start out each workout with a Basic Calisthenic Circuit. Generally 3 to 4 Rounds of Chin-ups,Dips or Push-ups and a Split Squat Progression to Jumps. I don’t do stuff they do in school. Most of these kids in these field-houses just do Squats,Cleans and Bounce Bench Presses And can’t do one Chin or proper push-ups. Coaches have them doing stupid Tricep combos and Lateral Raises when they could use that time to master body-weight and Loaded Carries. We focus on their Proprioceptive Awareness and Relative-Strength. Before one can control their opponent they must be able to control thyself. This is done through the BASICS!!!!!! 2 years ago I began incorporating home workouts and calisthenics focused training. The benefits are obvious. 1. You can workout at your own convenience 2.
