💪 What are Strength Exercises and why are they useful?⁣ ⁣ Strength exercises are a type of physical exercise that use resistance to generate muscle contractions to build strength and increase muscle size. Strength exercises are commonly used in physiotherapy because of their many benefits. They are useful for people of all ages and don’t require specialist equipment. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that all adults engage in training each major muscle group two or three times per week. Why are they making these recommendations and why is it commonly used as an intervention?⁣ ⁣ 👍 Benefits of Strength Exercises⁣ ⁣ Strength exercises have been shown to improve physical function in both men and women. This includes older adults where improvements in walking speed, balance, getting out of a chair and reaching for objects have been shown. Of course the benefits are not limited to older adults as strength training can reduce injury risk which allows athletes to perform more skill based sessions and spend more time on the practice field and pitch enhancing their performance.⁣ ⁣ In 2011 it was reported that close to 116 million people were suffering from long term pain in the US alone, this approximately half of the population. Strengthening has been shown to be effective many types of pain such as low back pain, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. In low back pain it has been shown to be as effective as aerobic exercise whilst being more effective at improving physical function (allowing patients to do more of the things they want to do).⁣ ⁣ Bone mineral density decreases when we age. This is why many people especially women suffer from osteoporosis. According to research adults who do not strengthen may experience up to a 3% reduction in bone mineral density every year of their life. Bone mineral density is important as low levels cause bones to become weak and susceptible to fractures. Bone mineral density has been shown to increase by up to 3% in populations that strength train.⁣ ⁣ 🤙 If you would like more information on strengthening and how it might be useful for you please don’t hesitate to contact us.

17 min AMRAP 10 KB Front Squats 15 Toe to Ring Two very simple movements but it got spicy quick especially when you realize after doing 100 front squats and 150 toe to rings I STILL HAD MORE THAN 5 MINUTES LEFT!
