Here is one of Rosslynd Pigott artwork shown in her "I sense you but I cannot see you" solo exhibition held at National Gallery of Victoria. This one is "Collection of Air 2.12.1992-28.3.1993". She travelled Europe capturing 65 vials of air from 65 locations. The air captured is several months before I was born. She put a detailed notes on when and where it was captured. Looking at that, yes you breath a different air every time. It always feels different and has its own story. You have a familiar scent like when you're coming home or going to work, and you'll always open and looking for a new one when you're travelling or pitching an idea to your boss and your client. And then there is one vial captured from her flight going back to Melbourne. With a detailed notes of flight number QF10, speed, altitude, and outside temperature. It is London to Melbourne flight. It is a historical flight, "the kangaroo route". It started with a 7 stop flight and roughly 4 days to travel from Melbourne to London. When Pigott made her journey I think it was served by a B747 with a refuelling stop at Gulf, then later several years ago it was served by A380. Early last year it was served by a modern B787 and they changed the course to Melbourne - Perth - London. The more efficient engine and a lighter aircraft make this Australia - UK nonstop flight possible. Recently Qantas launch a Project Sunrise proposal. It is a proposal for aircraft manufacturer to provide an ultra long range aircraft so that they can serve Melbourne or Sidney to London, a 22 hours flight, non-stop. Marvelous isn't it? #latepost #nanastrollingaround #ngv #melbourne #rosslyndpiggott #artwork #qf10 #projectsunrise

The exhibition “I sense you but I cannot see you.” Liquids appear in various forms through piggott’s work. In this installation, I can see glass spheres, mirrored surface, a scientific containing milk and a female figure submerged under the water. Together, they’re a a range of associations including sex, life, birth, death and various emotional and dream-like states. #fall #rosslyndpiggott #1day1art #melbourneart #gallery #galleryartist #isenseyoubuticannotseeyou

My last post of the fabulous survey of @rosslyndpiggott at the NGV Ian Potter, ‘I sense you but I cannot see you’ covers nearly four decades of her wonderful practice, that I feel has a wonderful sense of the ephemeral being captured and almost museologically catalogued and re-displayed. As a student of Walter Benjamin’s works, I connected strongly with her paintings whilst I still lived in Melbourne up until 1994, so it’s wonderful to ‘meet old friends’ and make new ones in this show. The works in order are: Double - love flowers eyes, shadow (2005-06), Unfolding flower - cloud space no. 2 (2005-06), Collection of air - 2.12.1992 - 28.2.1993 (1992-93), Dark sun (1991-92), The lovely hermaphrodite (1989-90), Glasses of water, or A room with four walls of glasses of water (1986). 📷 @duncan.gibbs . . . #rosslyndpiggott #isenseyoubuticannotseeyou #australianart #australianartist #installationart #museology #thecollector #ephemera #abstractart #glassblowing #nationgalleryofvictoria #ngv #melbourne

The fabulous survey of @rosslyndpiggott at the NGV Ian Potter, ‘I sense you but I cannot see you’ covers nearly four decades of her wonderful and thoughtful practice, that I feel has a wonderful sense of the ephemeral being captured and almost museologically catalogued and re-displayed. As a student of Walter Benjamin’s works, I connected strongly with her paintings whilst I still lived in Melbourne up until 1994, so it’s wonderful to ‘meet up with old friends’ and make new ones in this show. The works in order are: Tremor, (1999-2000, with David Poulton’s woodwork and glass work by David Herbert), Conversation (1995 which explores contradictory distance, proximity and the uncertain valence of language), Double breath (contained) of the sitter (1993-94 and very lucky to have it restaged here!!) 📷 @duncan.gibbs . . . #rosslyndpiggott #isenseyoubuticannotseeyou #australianart #australianartist #installationart #museology #thecollector #ephemera #abstractart #glassblowing #nationgalleryofvictoria #ngv #melbourne

First shown at Museo del Vetro, Murano in 2017, Rosslynd Piggott's exquisite series of glass sculptures 'Garden fracture / Mirror in vapour', 2016-17 can be seen for the first time in Australia as part of the artist's survey exhibition 'I sense you, but I cannot see you' @ngvmelbourne. Made in collaboration with master artisans on Murano, they have been delicately engraved with images of wisteria, magnolias and cherry blossom, suspended in a state of perpetual bloom. The viewer's encounter with these ethereal gardens is fractured by their own reflection, returned to them through multiple layers of glass and mirrors. This privileging of physical experience and engagement with the work evokes the transience of the natural world and invites reflection upon our place within it.⠀ ⠀ 'I sense you, but I cannot see you' continues on Level 3 of The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia until 18 August, 2019. To coincide with the exhibition, Piggott will present a new body of paintings at Sutton Gallery, opening 3 August. 🌸🌸🌸 ⠀ #ngvmelbourne #ngv #rosslyndpiggott #suttongallery #suttongallerymelbourne @rosslyndpiggott

Rosslynd Piggott is drawn to substances that are slippery, liminal. . They flow between states, take shape when held. Yesterday, today and tom(m)orrow, and all their possibilities. The extraordinary Rosslynd Piggott at NGV Aus - so many favourites 💙 @ngvmelbourne #rosslyndpiggott

‘Piggott presents an allusive space where unexpected connections occur’ She has long been interested in the #intangible - much like an #architecture, we hope for, that is ‘rich with possible narratives’ #rosslyndpiggott makes ‘visual recordings that attempt to encompass other overlapping senses, #synaesthetically predominantly through a scent perception’. (Expressed strongly in her Magnolia series.) The image here though, is from her winsome and beguiling ‘Double Breath (contained) of the Sitter’ 1993 restaged in 2019 from her Exhibition- ‘I sense you but I cannot see you’ at the #ngv. Her 2nd retrospective is a beautiful delicate antidote to all that is war on this #anzacday #transparency #nighthoveringscent #magnoliagrandiflora @rosslyndpiggott
