First and foremost... This. Was. Hard. . But I did want to share why @sarahbishopruns saying “Okay. You are going to BQ this spring.” was such a big deal this morning?! 🤔 . It was NOT that it was what I wanted to hear, it was because well... she’s not much of a sugar coater 🍭 . So this morning a BQ may have gone from the dream to the plan. But, nothing is guaranteed! 💫 . “There is not one giant step that does it. It’s a lot of little steps” and I still have 10 TOUGH weeks ahead of me, which included today 🥵 . If you know me, you know I love a good count down! So to be exact, 75 days... to continue to work my butt off to EXECUTE the plan! . I haven’t been one to listen to music while running for at least a decade. Part of it is because I use the time to be in my own head. Another part is that I don’t like to block out sounds around me - it’s a physiological thing tying back to when I was attached while running. I’ve slowly gotten hooked on podcasts, however, and really like listening to them on easy runs. One of them is the @aliontherun1 show and she talks about @aftershokz headphones a lot (like, loves them). What’s amazing is that I hear the sound through my bones. (What?!?) And I don’t have to have anything in my ear so I can stay alert. I picked these up back in the States and already understand all the hype. 8 miles this morning, in my new amazing hat, and listening to a podcast. #treehugger #aftershokz

Sightseeing took priority yesterday so I missed a run for the first time on my current marathon plan. However, today we had a spare hour before dinner so I thought I’d go and do some intervals in front of America’s iconic monuments. It was 7 x 3 mins, with 3 mins jog recovery. The last interval session I did was disappointing as I felt really weak - but everything flowed well tonight and I managed a decent pace for all 7. hey! this past weekend i had a super fun time experimenting with some recipes from Run Fast Cook Fast Eat Slow! i’m busy perfecting some but here is one recipe i love!!! it’s the apple pie oatmeal, specifically i really love the recipe for the apples (it literally tastes like apple pie!) 🤩💚🍎 i used honeycrisp apples because they are the best (don’t @ me) lightly greased the pan with butter and i didn’t addd any pecans just because i didn’t have them and i’m not the biggest fan of them!! #runfast #cookfast #eatslow #breakfast

Here is what Libby’s family @libbysheartjourney provided. . “This is Libby she was prenatally diagnosed with D-TGA. She had surgery 7 days after birth. During surgery the surgeon perforated her coronary artery, he was able to patch it, miraculously. He in tears told us he didn’t know how she was still here. She’s our miracle. So much to learn! 🤓 . . Today I ran for the first time with a heart rate chest strap on. The wealth of information you get from it’s data is insane!! . . Things I learned: 1) When I do interval training I am not allowing my heart rate to come down enough during my “rest” interval. There is a time and a place to push hard constantly, but if I’m truly trying to do interval work, I need to manage my rest interval properly. . 2) I’m actually a wimp about my “hard” intervals!! I’m so embarrassed! I was pushing during my hard intervals...or I thought I was pushing? Then I checked my heart rate and my body had WAY more to give. What has always been my qualitative interpretation of “hard” just became quantitative. And the numbers say I’ve been selling myself short. 🤦🏻‍♀️ . . Using this heart rate tool I was able to reach a max pace of 7’26” a mile. Something I have never done before in a run longer than a mile. I am so excited to use this valuable tool in the future! Who knows what I can accomplish with this new accountability! . . Moral of the story, strength and stamina mean nothing if you don’t know how and when to use it. (And quit being a wimp, Brooke! Holy soreness in my quads! I don't think I have felt this deep tissue soreness in quite a while and I am not going to lie, I absolutely love it! I decided that today I needed to get in some active recovery with my running and felt like I was successful in that. I then figured I'd warm up with lifting and just see what my body had to give. Somehow my body decided to give me a lot. I think it may have been the 9-10 hours of sleep I got last night that really helped me out. I was mentally wanting to crush today. _______________ Running Summary: It was a double run day today. The first of which was on the treadmill where I did a slow 3 miles. I was barely shuffling my legs to start, but as they warmed up I was able to increase the speed into a more respectable recovery pace. My second run was done after work along the shore in Woodlake where I was able to knock out another couple of miles. Now I just need to stretch and relax them. _______________ Lifting Summary: Today was a back focussed day and the biggest lift that was on focus was Deadlifts. I did not have issues activating my quads during the lifts probably since it was super obvious when I was using them (soreness win). My final working set for deadlifts was a strong 375lbs for 7 reps. This was completely unexpected with my sore body, so I am feeling super stoked about that. I then knocked out some straight leg deadlifts, barbell rows, and weighted pullups to finish off this workout.

“You’re never fully dressed without a smile.” . . 4 miles done on the indoor track. My legs are still recovering from those hills on Sunday. I’m so excited for this running season 💗. I hope to really kick a$$ and have fun!!! I’ve signed up for a bunch of races just to run them-no goals except to have fun. My only real goal is for the Mountain Goat. After finishing 4th overall for the relay, I REALLY want to be in the top 3. When you luck out and your running friends are also your best friends, couple friends, and vacation friends❤️🙌🏼. . I’ve had some anxiety about this workout since my coach sent it to me a few days ago. Not sure if I could hold these paces for so many miles in a row without any downhill. I did have to stop a few times during those faster paces, but we got it done. I couldn’t do it without these girls, so glad I have them! Also I’ve never been so soaked...it poured the entire time💦. . THE WORKOUT: 1 mile easy. 6 miles @8:50 pace (reality: 8:49, 8:57, 8:41, 8:51, 8:54, 8:57) 6 miles @ 7:50 pace (reality: 7:49, 7:53, 7:51, 8:02, 8:04, 7:53) Cool down. 14 total miles. Just a little of this morning’s workout. Pushups, mountain climbers, bent over rows, deadlift, bicep curls, upright rows, starfish abs, weighted squats, weighted lunges. There was about double that in this work out but I couldn’t fit it all. It was a good one. And it’s saved on my favorites in my @aaptiv app so I can do it again. TRACK TUESDAY say whaaaat. Plan for today was to sit in and be paced to consistently hit 78-80 second 400m reps off 200 jog recoveries staying cool, calm and comfortable. This is my current favorite stretch - it hurts so good!! Today was a speed workout of 4x400’s with the 400’s around an 8:00/mi pace. Unfortunately I forgot that strava only shows tenths of a mile, so my 400’s were all off a bit. That being said, I chose to ran them long instead of short and my heart rate was in a great place all workout, so I call this a great workout. I’m having some weird knee pain/tightness around the front and back of my right knee, so I’m going to take some extra time to stretch tonight and start doing my hip strengthening because I’ve been slacking. Don’t skip out on your stretching and hip-work, kids!!
