It's Friday and so we thought we would do a #fridayintroductions And there is no one better to get this party started than @EncounterGrace1 co-founder Penny Bailey (@pennyisjoyful). ___________________________ "I am a woman on a journey - of faith and encounter. A lifelong Catholic I spent most of my life living my faith on the margins, living as a Catholic in name only. 6 years ago I had a deep reversion to the faith, ending that long, spiritual dry spell. Today, I have a much clearer understanding of what God has called me to do and who He has called me to be. This journey has taken many twists and turns over the years. Looking back, I'm so blessed that by my side through it all have been my husband and our two beautiful, high spirited and deeply devout daughters. Adding our son-on-law and now grand-baby due in November has made this journey even sweeter. Launching Encounter Grace is another step along this path the good Lord has seen fit to put me on. It is always my prayer that my encounters with and witness to others, women especially, will encourage them to take a fresh look at how God sees them, embracing the gifts they have and finding a way to say yes to God's plan for their lives." #beginagainconference #howweencountergrace #backtobasics #catholicwomensconference #christianwomensconference #prayerlife #journeytogether #sacraments #adoration #confession #prayingwiththesaints #growinyourfaith #catholicwomen #christianwomen

“Momentary Musings” with Gary Edward Geraci: “Stable City Skylines” / “Stable City Skylines” is a Sonnet about the one and only one institution capable of position mankind for real, sustainable human flourishing: the institution of marriage as God designed it. Pope Saint John Paul II, in his work “Man and Woman He Created Them: A Theology of The Body” (TOB) teaches that the sacrament of marriage is primarily a ‘calling’ away from the concupiscence of the flesh (libido), but not a complete elimination of it; rather a redirection of it. Fallen mankind has inherited an opportunity to redirect the drives through this mystery of the redemption of the body; a redemption of the human body that Christ has given us through His life, Passion, Death, and Resurrection. (TOB 107)This entails reading and understanding the true language of the body - not from a secular, modern, progressive view that tends toward the denigration and exploitation of the body - but seeing the complementarity, the procreative, and the permanent character that true marriage points to: Christ’s creative and permanent union with us, His Bride, His Church (despite all of our faults and sins). A “machine driven pile” takes quite a large amount of mechanical energy to slowly drive it through the thick and relenting layers of earth in its pursuit of solid bedrock: work, work, work! Regarding the amount of work required to keep them strong, faithful, and stable - we can say the same about our own marriages today.

And again. And again. And again!!! This has been on my heart for several weeks and every time I’ve fallen I’ve reminded myself to begin again. And then when I poured out all the ugliness of my sins in the sacrament of Reconciliation, my confessor breathed these exact words. Begin again. As many times as it takes. Over and over. Never stop striving for Jesus. You are never too broken or too sinful for Jesus to heal. Just keep asking. And begin again. #catholiccreatives #catholicblogger #catholic #catholicmom #sacraments

#repost @msgrjohnbarry with @repostsaveapp ・・・ This is the church where I was baptized and celebrated so many sacred moments in my life. St Columba Church, Douglas was built in 1814 from the pennies of the poor. It was here I celebrated my First Mass. From this Chapel (we never knew it as church!) were buried so many of the victims of the great Irish famine. Here I have celebrated Baptisms, weddings and family funerals. My prayer is that Martyrs will have the same connection for many people, that it’s story will give our hearts a sense of the many connections that make us a vibrant community. This icon of The Parable of the Good Samaritan is from the church of St. Peter in Bologna by Giovanni Paolo Bardini. It recalls Sunday’s Gospel reading. Tomorrow we are driving to Notre Dame to take part in a symposium on family where we are going to give a presentation on the family as a place of healing. Through the grace we are given in the sacraments and our daily practices within our families they can be what Pope Francis calls “the nearest hospital” in the field hospital of the church. The WEEKDAY After School Program is a Parish Faith Formation program run by the Office of Catechesis of Our Lady of Guadalupe and administered by Loyola Elementary. The program provides Religious Formation to children and teenagers and prepares them to receive the sacraments of Initiation, such as Baptism, Penance, Communion, and Confirmation. The Pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church appoints the Catechists and supervises the program through the Parish Director of Catechesis. Our Parish offers classes of Religious Formation on Sundays at Doral Academy High School, and on Weekdays at Loyola Elementary. Academically, there is no difference between the Weekday Program (at Loyola) and the SUNDAY Program (at Doral Academy HS). Administratively The WeekDAY After School Program is part of Loyola Elementary which cover the expenses of the program with your monthly contributions. Both programs follow the same curriculum and they have the same structure. The programs are fully approved by the Pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and the Archdiocese of Miami. We totally forgot to bring these bags to Mass today, and boy, did *I* miss them!!! I went solo with four kids today, because my husband had to take the car to the shop and I didn’t want to take the kids to evening Mass to avoid a disaster, but of course, it was still a complete mess from start to finish 😂😩 our littlest one is just walking and she won’t stay in the pew anymore, so cry room here we come... 😱 and because I didn’t have these with me, which we usually fill with bibles, missals, and books, the kids were completely checked out and distracted. They tried hard, but in the cry room (this particular one) it just doesn’t feel like they’re at Mass in their little minds, so I get it. Guess where these bags will stay and not ever leave?? The mini van 😬 . Mass bags for children available on the shop, as always! Contents not included 😉but I do recommend Missals for all ages and the Action Bible series for boys! . . . . . . #catholicgifts #catholickids #catholicfamily #catholicmom #catholicchildren #domesticchurch #ecclesia #catholicmass #eucharist #catholicdad #sacraments #catholic #catholics #instacatholic

If you drop by my house in the summer or spring, you will likely find me in my gardens. I love gardening. I am truly in my happy place when I’ve got dirt under my fingernails and smell of the earth. One thing about gardening though, is that you also have to weed regularly. Typically it’s every few weeks for me. I spent 2.5 hours weeding just half of my gardens yesterday. It had only been three weeks since I had weeded last. How do these weeds grow back so fast??? When I’m weeding, I am always drawn to think about how very much weeding is similar to going to confession. What??? Every weed I pull is like plucking a sin out. And, so many times, I’m pulling the same types of weeds again and again. Kinda like when we confess, right? Those same sins keep popping up again and again. And, like the weeding that needs to be done regularly, we, too should confess regularly to keep the weeds of sin from overgrowing our souls. I feel so connected to Our Faith when I’m performing such a tedious task. So, go to Confession if you haven’t been lately. Clean up YOUR garden. 💐🌷🌸🌼🌻🌹🌺#rcrosaries #reginacaelirosaries #confession #egoteabsolvo #sacraments #catholicfaith #avemaria #catholicchurch #hailmary #hailmaryfullofgrace #catholicgarden

Today in the Gospel of Luke, we hear the Parable of the Good Samaritan. You are probably thinking, oh boy, here we go again, another homily on how was are called to love our neighbour, the poor, the marginalized, the injured, etc.; because we must be like the Good Samaritan. And while that is true and a reasonable interpretation of today’s Gospel; I would like to look a much more deeper meaning to parable of the Good Samaritan. The parable begins, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of robbers..." What is the significance of Jerusalem and Jericho? Well, Jerusalem always symbolizes the heavenly Jerusalem. While Jericho, on the other hand, always symbolizes the city of sin. The man represents each one of us, when we have fallen from grace to sin. The man is beaten within an inch of his life and lies their helplessly; just waiting for someone to help him. The man encounters 3 people; the Priest, the Levite, and finally the Good Samaritan. he bends down, pours oil and wine into the wounds of the man, puts him on his own animal, takes him to the inn, and cares for him. Who is this man? Who is the Good Samaritan? Christ is the Good Samaritan! As Bishop Barron says, it is Christ who pours into our wounded souls, oil and wine. The oil and wine of the Sacraments: The oil of Baptism, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick, and Ordination; and the wine of the Eucharist. The same Christ who pours the wine of his own blood, into our sin-sick souls. The Good Samaritan then brings the man to the inn, where he pays for him. What is the Inn? The inn is the Church. Christ brings us to this place of healing and then he pays for us. What is the cross other than the payment of Christ for what owe because of our sins? We owe the infinite price but cannot pay it because we are finite; so, God the Father sent his infinite son to pay the infinite price on the cross. Therefore, let us thank God, that the Good Samaritan came and paid the price on the cross; because all of us, by our nature are fallen, but each of us have the chance to be saved and redeemed in the blood of the Lamb! #goodsamaritan #catholicism #catholicchurch #salvation #redemption

“Momentary Musings” with Gary Edward Geraci / “Towel Boy” is an example of the confessional style poetry that I often write - risky but authentic. I did approach my mother about this recently. She still believes that she was using the correct technique, according to her, the only way she knew during those times, to correct a certain behavioral problem that she perceived that I was exhibiting. The towel and blanket wrapping went on for what seemed like many years and it affected my four siblings as well. To this day they are still sorry that this went on for so long. There are certainly worse things that happen to children and so no one, including me, will accuse my mom of not caring - rather, at worst, I think she was neurotically overprotective - perhaps a behavior acquired during her own upbringing - she grew up in a single parent household having to raise her sister with Down Syndrome. And so I doubt that she meant evil from it; regardless, God meant it for good. Yes, I regularly visit both my parents and here lately, I’ve witnessed my mother doing a remarkable job of caring for my father as his health continues to decline. They just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary (2019). I pray that our merciful God will grant me the grace of complete and total forgiveness as this is what I beg of Him for my own and many wretched failings in this life.

“Everyone therefore who acknowledges me before others, I also will acknowledge before my Father in heaven; but whoever denies me before others, I also will deny before my Father in heaven.” Though we may never be faced with the question “will you renounce Jesus” literally, we are faced with it daily. Whenever we have to make a decision that is not in line with our faith, we deny Jesus and the consequence is detrimental. Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.(Matt 7:21) Our confession of Christ is not enough – to claim to be Christians we have to truly practice our faith beyond just regular church attendance, by living out our Christian values. Like the great Catholic philosopher G.K. Chesterton puts it, “Just going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.” We should make efforts to stand for what we believe through the grace we have in the Holy Spirit offered to us by the Sacraments and the good formation of our conscience by faith in God. – Amen Osayande #tec #theeveningchapel #dailyreflection #truechristianity #kingdomofheaven #faith #sacraments #conscience #gkchesterton #church #catholic #holyspirit #god

This image was inspired by the Relic painting I did after the #notredamecathedral fire. It is in keeping with the inspiration I take from #landscape bc it is branches, but it really is based on the crown of thorns of #jesuschrist. I am a #catholic and don’t usually paint overtly religious imagery, but I consider all of my work to be rooted in #christianity. The use of iridescent gold paint is intentional in its representation of His divinity. #church #jesus #art #religion #franklintn #nashvilletn artist #divinity #sacraments #holytrinity #passionofthechrist

Happy Friday! As the Encounter Grace Begin Again Catholic Women's Conference kicks off, we thought we'd take a moment to do a #fridayintroductions So, let's do this! _______________________ Encounter Grace was co-founded by Penny Bailey (@PennyIsJoyful) and Laura K. Roland (@LauraKRoland). Life-long friends, we created Encounter Grace to serve women in the DC/MD/VA area by hosting events that bring women of all ages and seasons of life together, helping them connect with their faith and each other. ______________________ Inspired by the relationship between Our Blessed Mother, Mary and her beloved cousin, Saint Elizabeth, ENCOUNTER GRACE is an organization dedicated to helping women build community, one grace-filled encounter at a time. Scripture tells us that Mary and Elizabeth shared a special bond, making the effort to stay connected despite being separated by miles, age and circumstance, all the while keeping Christ at the center of their relationship. And so with this relationship as our model, our mission is to create authentic, engaging opportunities where women can come together, encountering and witnessing each other's stories, sharing this thing we call life, all while having a few laughs along the way. Just as Mary and Elizabeth journeyed together, we hope that no matter where you are on your own faith journey, you will find friendship and joy with the women you encounter at one of our events. ___________________ We will share more about our own lives in the next few weeks. Until then, you can follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Information about the conference can be found on our website www.encountergrace.co/begin-again-conference. Be sure to check other events they have planned for the 2019 season as well. Happy Feast of Sts. Louis and Zelie Martin. This icon represents the Martins and their family. What a wonderful example of a couple who truly desired to raise their children to know God’s love and to witness to Him through their lives in spite of their many sufferings. St. Zelie writes to her daughter, Pauline: “As for me, my children were my great compensation, so that I wished to have many in order to bring them up for heaven.” All of us are called to holiness and as parents we are responsible to evangelize our children in order to help bring them to heaven. We had a great conversation on the The Drew Mariano Show talking about our new book where we share about what we did to try to evangelize our own children. The book is available @tan_books. #tan_books #catholic #christian #marriage #family #tob #pro-life #sacraments #saints #giftofchildren #vocations #marriageandfamily

“Momentary Musings” with Gary Edward Geraci / In my poem “My name is on a list” - notice the faceless wooden image or “object” in the photo. When we see others as objects to fulfill our own desires we use them for the sake of our own pleasures. This never satisfies for the long term. The short term rush simply fuels addiction and the downward spiral begins its pull on your body and soul. Is your name on a list? So what; move on! Make a good confession before a Roman Catholic priest - it’s time to forgive yourself and it’s time to seek God’s mercy and forgiveness too. Make reparations by helping others avoid your same mistakes. Your God is the the Father of the prodigal son - you are the sole subject of a massive banquet that he [is] throwing for your return home! Come home! “Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future.” Oscar Wilde

A priest is not a self worshipping or self praying he is not saying the holy mass for himself he does not take sacraments for himself he does not reconcile himself alone he does give himself absolution or does nothing for himself he is a priest for you he does everything for you he gives his whole time to pure the people he gives us whole life for God and for the service of others without thinking of himself #priest #god #service #whole #life #helpingothers #absolution #reconcile #everything #time #people #nothing #stjohnvianney #pure #sacraments #latinmass #praying #himself #worshipping

Father Scott Woods is a powerhouse priest for the communities of St. Peter Claver and St. Cecilia's Catholic Churches in St. Mary's County Maryland. Known for his graciousness, good cheer and wisdom that is seemingly endless, it is no wonder he is a fan favorite of so many people in the Southern Maryland area, especially the faculty, staff and students @stmarysryken for whom he is their Chaplain and lead Spiritual Director. Fr. Scott will be joining the @encountergrace1 Begin Again Catholic Women's Conference as a session presenter as well as leading us in Adoration and hearing confessions. #beginagainconference #howweencountergrace #backtobasics #catholicwomensconference #christianwomensconference #prayerlife #journeytogether #sacraments #adoration #confession #prayingwiththesaints #growinyourfaith #catholicwomen #christianwomen

Pray pray pray and pray some more do not believe the lies of the devil who wants to stop you from praying. The most important part of prayer is to be in a state of grace if your in a state of mortal sin go to confession as soon as you can. If you can't go right away to confession repent and ask Our Lord for forgiveness he desires to give you mercy no matter what you have done. #holyspirit #holyghost #godalmighty #repent #confession #sacrament #sacraments #walkbyfaith #jesusislord #jesusmyredeemer #jesusistheway #catholicspartans #catholicchurch

Happy Feast of St. Benedict. It’s also the feast day of our first grandson pictured here with his younger brother, Leo. The Church recommends giving our children a saint’s name when naming them. This gives them models of the Christian life to emulate. In Amoris Laetitia, Pope Francis says,”For God allows parents to choose the name by which he himself will call their child for all eternity.” In our book, Raising Catholic Kids for Their Vocation @tan_books, we devote a whole chapter to the importance of names. #tan_books #catholic #christian #marriage #family #tob #pro-life #sacraments #saints #theologyofthebody #giftofchildren #vocations #marriageandfamily #benedictines

“Momentary Musings” with Gary Edward Geraci / A 17T/17B Haiku - “As Aristotle would argue later, in his theory of the “four causes,” without any efficient and final causes, material causes alone cannot explain how or why matter takes certain determinate forms. Words by themselves do not make books. Authors (efficient causes) make books, of certain kinds (formal causes), for definite ends (final causes).” Socrates Children: Ancient: The 100 Greatest Philosophers by Peter Kreeft

GRACE INFUSION: The holidays are over and it's time to get back to business as we dive into our big series for the year - The Sacraments. We look into what these 7 "traditions", "rituals", "consumables" and "customs" we eat, enjoy, and celebrate are actually all about. (pre-warning: they're way more magnificent than you realise) In addition to that, this Sunday we'll have our usual Parents Info & Formation Evening running at the same time of 6:30-8:00pm, so we'll see you all there as we launch into God's Grace in true Life Teen style. #lifeteen #graceinfusion #sacraments #parentsevening

Prayer, in essence, is the activity of knowing and loving God. In order to be true prayer, conversation with God must involve both the mind and the heart. Our mind becomes fixed on Him, and our will follows by loving what we behold. We can think of prayer simply as looking at God with love; it is the conversation with God that happens within this interior gaze. Get tips on revamping your prayer life in our series, "I Firmly Resolve," available for free at goodcatholic.com! Sign up through the link in our bio or at goodcatholic.com. #goodcatholic #romancatholic #catholic #catholicism #religion #catholicreligion #faith #catholicfaith #christian #christianity #catholicstore #store #shop #onlineshop #onlineseries #digitalcontent #subscription #catholiccompany #becausefaithmatters #ifirmlyresolve #prayer #resolutions #newyear #newyearnewme #newyearnewyou #reconciliation #faith #renewal #sacraments #love

“This Is My Body” The following report comes from evangelist Ed of the Sierra Vista, Arizona team: “On the 4th of July, the City of Sierra Vista put together a fair of booths and food trucks and entertainment in the largest park in the city. St. Paul Street Evangelization had a booth that was decorated with very patriotic flags and Yoda had a patriotic pinwheel and a red, white and blue Rosary. Ed, Terry, Robert, Rachael (and her four-year-old daughter), and Elizabeth all were out evangelizing in this wonderful booth. Robert on his way in stopped at a booth where a candidate was running for US Congress and spoke to him about the Faith.  This young gentleman was knowledgeable about the Faith as he studied Catholicism and mentioned Thomas Aquinas and others.  Robert gave him some brochures to study some more. Ed spoke with many fallen-away Catholics. One woman said she was no longer Catholic and Ed asked her why she left.  Said she wasn't getting filled. Ed said he gets completely filled with the Eucharist - which is the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ Himself. She asked, "how can that be?" Ed said that in each of the Synoptic Gospels Jesus said to his Apostles to "Take and Eat, this IS MY BODY and the Cup to take and drink, for this is the Cup of my blood, the new and everlasting Covenant. Ed told her it was interesting that Jesus used the word Covenant because that word is how the world started. When Jesus said the words in John 6 about eating his flesh and drinking his blood, he used the word “Trogo,” which means to chew loudly or gnaw, instead of “eat politely.” He truly meant to EAT HIS FLESH and DRINK HIS BLOOD. She took brochures about the Eucharist, Confession, Salvation, and Hell, and took Ed's card as well and said she would listen to the MP3 talks about the Eucharist on them. When you know and understand the Eucharist, you never leave the Church! Ed, Terry and Robert prayed over two people who were sick, one of whom was in a wheelchair. Ed gave a flyer to those who did not go to church which described how people who go to church weekly live longer and happier lives. Many people thanked us.”
