What am I doing in this video and why? 🤔 This move is one of the best ways available within the context of yoga to work on shoulder-pulling strength! . . . I say “within the context of yoga” because all you need for this is a yoga blanket & a smooth floor for sliding on, and you’re good to go! . . . (There are of course lots of other great ways to work on shoulder pulling strength too, but they involve things we don’t tend to have in yoga studios, like bars to hang from, weights, etc. So that’s why this move in particular is great for yogis! 👍🏼) . . . And why is it beneficial for yogis to work on their pulling strength? Wellll you might have heard this word on the street before, but yoga is good at providing us with lots of shoulder-pushing opportunities (i.e. pushing the floor away), but it doesn’t involve much in the way of shoulder-pulling opportunities (i.e. pulling something toward us). . . . Do you see how in this sliding sphinx move, I get to pull the weight of my body toward my hands? This gives us major points for shoulder-pulling work! 💪🏽 . . . I actually wrote a big piece on this pushing/pulling topic in @yoga_international 3 years ago that ended up being quite the controversial one! 😲 Feel free to DM me for the direct link because you might find it potentially amusing/entertaining (and informative, of course!) . . . People always say to me “I wish I had even an ounce of your energy or motivation”. Folks! You can have it! And I promise you I most certainly do not always have the energy or the motivation. I work hard and push play for myself every single day! It is called will power and self discipline. Whether it be a workout, a run, some self care, or personal development, reading....I do me for me and take care of me for me! . Instead of wishing and watching, I decided to make a change and throw away the excuses and the “wishing” for results. I put in the work. I have learned how to eat MUCH healthier and fueling my body the way a body needs to be fueled. So you can all stop wishing too! 🙌🏻 And you can take each day, one step at a darn time! It will not be perfect. It will not be easy. But it will be worth it. It will not be just a quick fix! It can be an amazing permanent lifestyle. I am NOT on a DIET.
