Achilles tendonitis is an overuse injury of the Achilles tendon, the band of tissue that connects calf muscles at the back of the lower leg to your heel bone. The tendon becomes irritated causing pain and swelling. Treatment would be 30 minute injury sessions using an IASTM (instrument assisted soft tissue massage) tool to get the fascia gliding again which would prevent further irritation and to promote new blood flow to the area, some PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) stretching to encourage mobility and reduce swelling and then taping to stabilise the tendon and reduce pressure. DOLPHIN POSE FOR SERRATUS ANTERIOR — 🤔 The serratus anterior seems to be a popular muscle, mostly as a scape goat for shoulder pain. Apparently everyone with shoulder pain needs to strengthen their serratus (and low trap) and their pain will be resolved. Maybe, but 1. We shouldn’t solely blame biomechanics as the route cause of pain and 2. If we only train these muscles in isolation, when the shoulder works as unit, we will be missing out on the bigger picture. So don’t ignore larger movements like overhead pressing either. — 🤓With that said, working isolation is not a bad thing, but to be more effective there are some considerations: 1️⃣ Muscle function. The serratus anterior is commonly trained in protraction (shoulder blades apart), but it is also an upward rotator of the shoulder blade. . 2️⃣ Closed chain vs open chain. Overall shoulder health should include a variety of movements, including both open chain (i.e. shoulder press) and closed chain (i.e push ups). — 🐬 The dolphin pose allows for closed chain protraction and upward rotation of the shoulder blade. The video demonstrates 2 options: . 1️⃣ Transitions. Move shoulder blades together then apart (scap push up) then transition in to dolphin pose. Transition back and repeat. 2️⃣ Scapular push ups while holding dolphin pose: Move shoulder blades together and apart. This will facilitate protraction and upward rotation, maximizing serratus. — 😎Although I am sure many people have done this movement before (and probably better), credit to sir @dr.surdykapt who I learned it from first 🙏🏼 . .

This post is more for my own reminder than anything. Like many other clinicians or therapists, I’ve had many success stories with treatment and exercise. . So when a familiar condition comes in and I don’t get results as fast as usual, I’ve historically jumped ship even if it’s the correct approach. . It’s important for clinicians, coaches, and clients to remember that not everyone will respond the same as others when it comes to a rehab or training program. So assuming you’ve done your job as the captain of the ship and you have a quality plan in place, shift your focus on the consistency of working that plan. . ✅The important thing is setting those expectations. . ❌Don’t get mad if you’re not getting results if you haven’t put in the work. ❌Don’t expect a condition that’s been around for 10 years to resolve in 1 month. ❌ Don’t promise things you can’t deliver! . So here’s my injury and only surgery will help because cartilage doesn’t get enough blood flow to aid in healing. When I eventually have this stupid surgery (inevitable), they have to anchor my labrum to my hip socket. I also have a bone cyst, so I assume they’ll do something about that, too.
