This is why the prowler is awesome! It mimics acceleration! Look at the similarities in body position between both pictures (hard to tell which one’s Usain Bolt and which one’s me, I know 😜)! . Fair to say Usain Bolt knows a thing or two about sprinting/acceleration! Look at the position he is in when accelerating; forward lean (approx 45 degrees), punching his lead knee forward, with his toe up and applying force BACK and down into the ground with the back leg! The prowler forces athletes into this acceleration position! You’re developing lower body strength, whilst also re-enforcing acceleration mechanics! ✅✅✅ . Sport is played over short distances! Acceleration is king! If you play a sport that requires you to accelerate regularly and you’re not using a prowler, I would recommend getting around it!!! . Sleds are awesome as well! One of our athletes is performing a classic "Low Goblet Squat" variation. I like this exercise for several reasons, but specific to ACL recovery it is particularly beneficial! First, the elevated weight platform will limit the amount of load that can be applied since he has to travel much farther. Also, squat patterns don't recruit the hamstrings to the same extent as deadlifts so it's a much safer option for two reasons. First, the hamstring is supposed to actively prevent any excessive translation or gliding of the femur on the lower leg. If it's unsuccessful in doing so then the last line of defense is the ACL and due to its nature (lower tissue density, poorer blood flow, etc.) It's only a matter of time before it fails. Factor in extra weight like in a traditional Deadlift and then this becomes even more of an issue....So why not pick a low hamstring load drill like the goblet or another squat and progress back into standard training?? Lastly, Garrett's graft or replacement ACL tissue was taken from his hamstring. Even after a year from surgery the location can be inflamed easy so its wise to stress the area lightly and let it adapt back over time!

Skipping Drills...which ones should you integrate into your program? As most things, it depends! What phase of sprint/running are you trying to emphasize? Drills that emphasize a synchronized flexion or extension reflex pattern is the easiest way, IMO, to keep things simple while still having some athlete specificity. Consider this, one athlete is good at turning their legs over like the Road-Runner, but lacks that “punch” when they contact the ground (flexion reflex dominant), while another athlete is powerful at ground contact but lacks the leg recovery appearing floaty (extension reflex dominant) What do you do? My opinion would be to attack their weakness. Here I have demo’d a basic A-Skip pattern(1st skip: flexion reflex dominant) and a Rotary (2nd skip: extension reflex dominant). "Dating back as far as the ninth century, the berserker Norse Warriors were said to be able to do things that normal humans could not. According to ancient legend, the berserkers were indestructible, and no weapon could break them from their trance.  They were described as being immune to fire and to the strike of a sword, continuing on their rampage despite injury. The Icelandic historian and poet Snorri Sturluson (1179–1241 AD) wrote the following description of berserkers in his Ynglinga saga: ☆ 'His (Odin's) men rushed forwards without armour, were as mad as dogs or wolves, bit their shields, and were strong as bears or wild oxen ...'" ☆ "In battle, the berserkers were subject to fits of frenzy. They would howl like wild beasts, foamed at the mouth, and gnawed the iron rim of their shields.
