The conventional-deadlift is an exceptional compound exercise. The conventional-deadlift utilizes the glutes, erector-spinae, and hamstrings, thus it is a great exercise for developing the posterior chain. When performing the conventional-deadlift technique is crucial to prevent injury and to improve force production. Maintaining a flat back is essential as a rounded-back will cause excessive loading onto the lower-back, which has a major potential for injury. Positioning the barbell above feet is important as if the barbell too far forward it'll cause more strain on the low-back. Lastly, locking the upper-back via retracting the scapulas prevents lurching at the upper-back. Pretty surprised that I was able to PR on deadlift . . I've had a crappy time with my deadlifts for a while now and I've been feeling overall weak when it came to deadlift training days . . The PR isn't big, I only jumped up ten pounds but I'm happy that I was able to get better even if it was just by a bit. 1% forward everyday is what we gotta be aiming for . . But now that I have all three lifts done, it is time to start on a new routine with an updated max . . Feels so good to be leaning out and maintaining strength at the same time! ⁣ ⁣ Although my goal right now is to get as lean as possible, my main focus is on preserving the muscle I have built. I will inevitably lose muscle during my cut but I am using many techniques to help me keep my muscles; here are a few ⬇️⁣ ⁣ ▪️Progressive Overload: focusing on progressing my lifts over time even when in a deficit. ⁣ ⁣ ▪️Carb Cycling: Having low and high carb days. This will help fight against fatigue, exhaustion, and even motivation (low carbs can make your mind function slower).⁣ ⁣ ▪️Refeed Days: Having day’s where you eat at maintenance/ surplus calories. Fights against fatigue and will help you maintain over all strength. ⁣ ⁣ ▪️Proper Rest and Recovery: making sure you get the recommended amount of sleep every night, stretching, consuming adequate micro-nutrients, and active rest days are all important in muscle development and sustainability. ⁣ ⁣ Cutting and losing unwanted body fat is hard. It can be physically exhausting and mentally straining but there are so many techniques to aid in your journey. ⚜️𝘽𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙝 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨: ▫️ ⚜️Walk into almost any commercial gym, and the first thing you will be asked is “how much ya bench?”. ▫️ ⚜️It’s no surprise the bench press is a popular exercise among most trainees, but we’re here to talk about the different pieces of equipment you can use to get the job done. As always, there are benefits and trade offs to each, and the situation will dictate the best course of action. ▫️ ⚜️𝘽𝙖𝙧𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙡: Let’s start with the barbell, and get this out of the way. This is arguably one of the most efficient ways to build upper body strength and mass, and not something that can go unstated. The downside is that it can be tougher on the joints if you don’t have the requisite range of motion. Other than that, the bench press is a damn good strength movement that too often gets a bad name. ▫️ ⚜️𝘿𝙪𝙢𝙗𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙡: Dumbbell bench presses allow for slightly more range of motion, as well as a variate of different grips. If you have achy shoulders or are working around an injury, these may be the variation for you. Once again, the downside to dumbbells is their limited ability to be progressively scaled like a barbell. Once the weights get heavy, it is also more cumbersome to get them into position without a spotter. ▫️ ⚜️𝙆𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙡: The KB bench press is a good variation on dumbbells as it adds an extra element of instability due to the offset nature of the bell. However, they are even less progressively loadable than dumbbells, and also sit pretty unkindly on the wrist when the weights start to get heavy. I like these for variation and as a teaching tool for maintaining stability throughout the movement, but other than that dumbbells are pretty much superior in all ways. ▫️ ⚜️There are a ton of different ways to bench. As always, just make sure you pick the right tool for the job. Did 5 sets of squats, adding weight each set and taking the last set to failure. Haven’t squatted in weeks so a lil wobbly. Then I did 4 sets of RDL’s. Short and sweet this morning. PS today is the last day to enter my @lululemon giveaway (two posts back)! I’ll be picking a winner tomorrow!

QUADZILLA Here are a few exercises I do to hit my quads. 1. Pause squats- I like to pause on a squat for 3-5s to warmup. I do 8-10 reps for 3 sets 2. Elevated kettle ball squat - 12 reps for 4 sets 3. Barbell squats - 10 x 5 4. Goblet squats - 12 x 3 Before you leg day experts get on me with my squats, there’s a lot of research showing your knees can go past your toes. Also I’m still working on improving my form so I can hit my max. Went lighter today to focus on form & depth for my squat & straight legged deadlift. Filmed a few sets to see where I needed to make corrections between sets. DON’T PUSH TO GO HEAVY! Focus on depth, range of motion, form & breathing. Get that down then add weight as you get stronger & can lift heavier WITHOUT sacrificing those key elements! I did 2 sets of 15 reps & 2 of 10 reps with 40 lbs for both. Weight doesn’t mean ish if your form sucks & you hurt yourself! . ALSO do not look in the mirror to check form 👉🏻 already by turning to check your in the mirror your form will be out of alignment. Film yourself or have your swolemate do it to evaluate form 💪🏼

Week 7 Pressing (Session 2) Benching was a little off tonight, distracted I think because I was clearly not concentrating; First video I didn’t get myself tight enough. 2nd set I came off my line 2nd rep and had a pig getting it back, 3rd vid was the last set and prob best set but slower than I’m used to though; 3x3 167.5kg bench 3x3 98kg push press. 3x12 lateral raise 10kg DB 3x10 rear felt raise 10kg DB Was happy with push press, this is all a technique builder not about weight. Advise I had few weeks back helped. Cycle is asking for some bodybuilding esq movements as seen in last video. Weight is super low but to be honest I felt it, guess it’s due to it being unusual to my training. The gracilis free flap muscle transfer is getting stronger, and bigger as I try to work it. Does anyone have exercises they recommend? Although we're kind of "winging" it in the PT department, I'm coming up with little things to try, which seem to help, as you can see. There's STILL a big cocontraction issue, so I'm searching for pools to swim in and maybe get gravity out of the way so I can focus on isolation.
