Going to be starting my new program next week which will consist of a 6 day split including Olympic Weightlifting, Kettlebell Sport, Suples System, Hypertrophy, Mace, and Cardiovascular training. This simulates a program similar to that of a combat athlete which is the specific athlete I plan on training in the future for my career. 😩 Do you have chronically tight hamstrings, hip-flexors, low back, (insert body part)? Stretching and foam rolling not alleviating tension? - 🤔 Chances are high that your “tight” muscle doesn’t need stretching. - 🧠 There are a couple primary reasons a muscle can feel tight when it really is not. - 1) When that muscle is doing the job of another muscle that is asleep at the wheel. An example would be the hip flexors working overtime to stabilize the spine when the deep core muscles aren’t doing their job. - 2) When the muscle is actually lengthened beyond what is optimal. Yes, a muscle that is actually stretched too long can feel tight. The specialized Structures within the muscle are trying their best to return the muscle to more ideal resting length, and the result is a feeling of tightness. - If stretching and mobility work aren’t improving your condition, then look to stability. - I had a soccer player come to me with chronically tight hip flexors. After screening, I found that she was an upper chest breather. All we did was train diaphragmatic breathing (which is a major factor in core stability, and and she reported that her hips felt more open than they did after her 30 minute mobility routine. Today’s slime is “Glow” by @scentedslimebyamy This snow fizz slime is so much fun to play with and it’s scented like a lush bath bomb. It smells soooooo good. 🤤 I filmed with this slime for 10 minutes and it was so hard to trim this down. SHOULDER HEALTH!!⁣ ⁣ Votes are in: y’all wanted to learn more about shoulder health! Don’t worry, the back workout is still coming!! ⁣ ⁣ For those of you who don’t know, I used to work in physical rehab. I saw shoulder issues ALL. THE. TIME. And guess what - most issues could have been prevented. ⁣ ⁣ Too many of us work at a desk (including me!) and don’t think proactively about our bodies. Let’s change that!! Add in some of these on a weekly basis (or more if you’re noticing issues). ⁣ ⁣ *if you feel PAIN or numbness/tingling don’t use as much pressure, find another spot, or stop*⁣ ⁣ 1️⃣ Lats, Subscap, and Rotator Cuff - You can hit all of these with a foam roller or lacrosse ball (adv). Find a spot that is tender or tight then stay on it for no longer than 30ish seconds. ⁣ 2️⃣ Pec Major and Pec Minor - (yup you have two pec muscles!!) Using the flat end of a foam roller and a lacrosse ball, roll the ball around searching for tight spots. Be extra careful to not stay on a spit that makes your nerves feel weird. ⁣ 3️⃣ Thoracic Spine - this is the part of your spine the ribs attach to. We sit. We slouch. These get locked up! The more mobility you have in your thoracic spine, the less stress goes into your shoulders during overhead/backwards shoulder movements. This ones my favorite!! Max 3-5 min.⁣ 4️⃣ Thoracic Spine and Cervical Spine (adv) - two lacrosse balls in a sock or taped together to make this piece. Just like the foam roller but way more intense!! Also perfect for getting on both sides of your neck. Only use pressure you can tolerate. Max 30 sec on any one spot.⁣ 5️⃣ Shoulder Stretches - nothing specific, just find where it’s tight, and hold longer than I did!! ESTIRAR Y SU IMPORTANCIA 💪💪💪💪💪 No solo se trata de mejorar tu condición y volverte mas fuerte, estirar forma parte fundamental de tus actividades si te interesa mantenerte funcional a largo plazo con tus actividades. Muchas veces olvidamos una parte importantísima que DEBE hacerse cada vez que hacemos actividad física o incluso mínimo una vez al día para mantener la movilidad muscular. Si no realizas estiramientos frecuentes tu músculos se tornan “tiesos” y “cortos” lo limita su capacidad de movimiento y por tanto tu rendimiento, los hace propensos a desgarres y dolor articular. Estirar frecuentemente mantiene tus músculos: ✅flexibles ✅largos ✅menos propenso a sobrecarga o lesiones Tener músculos flexibles no es un proceso de la noche a la mañana, es cuestión de tiempo y disciplina, realiza una sesión de estiramiento 2-3 veces por semana, ya sea con ayuda de un profesional o un fisioterapeuta, si realizas actividades deportivas demandantes haz que estas sesiones de estiramiento formen parte de tu rutina, te vas a sorprender al notar que llegas a fatiga en un tiempo mayor al que estas acostumbrado. 👁👁👁TIP: Para realizar sesiones de estiramiento es importante que calientes primero, cuando el cuerpo esta “frio” las fibras musculares no están listas para estirarse Y PUEDES LASTIMARTE, al hacer tu calentamiento la sangre circula y esto permite a tus músculos prepararse para el movimiento.
