Tuesday Tea with Therese! “In times when we are poor, dry, arid, with the feeling that God is far away, let’s practice little works of love, especially in the area of fraternal charity, and we will find strength. Very often we recover our inner strength by forgetting ourselves in order to make life pleasant for others.” -The Way of Trust and Love

Let’s talk Novenas...• “A novena is a prayer said for nine days in thanksgiving and in petition for a special intention. The word novena comes from the Latin word novenus, which means ‘set of nine’... Novena prayers are great sacramentals to pass along to friends and family. They are usually printed in pamphlets or on cards, so they are easy to pass around.” -Amazing Graces: The Blessings of Sacramentals, by: Julie Cragon• What are some of your favorite novenas? #novenas #saints #sacredheart #mary #sttherese #stteresa #stperegrine #stjoseph #amazinggraces #prayer

GRACE + My word for 2019 is “grace.” It’s taken me 15 days into the new year to come up with what that means, and I’m sure at 365 I’ll still be understanding it. This past weekend during my silent retreat, my spiritual director asked: “What does grace mean to you?” I was stunned to find myself speechless even though the word had come to me so effortlessly in prayer. Our conversation pivoted and grace was defined before my eyes. + Grace is truth, and beauty, elegance and flow. Grace is unmerited, undeserved, unearned favor. Grace is acknowledging and accepting myself and others in truth, especially when it’s hard. It is being committed to the spiritual vitality of others and deeply attuned to my own poverty and weaknesses, knowing that if I can recognize it in others, it’s present inside me. + Being a grace-giver means I also position myself to receive truth from family and friends. Grace is standing comfortably in truth with myself. Grace is forgiveness. Grace is meeting the moments in the journey being humble enough to learn and not being too hard on yourself. Grace means being full of God’s presence. Grace evaporates fear. Grace is acceptance; of self, of others, of your circumstances, of God’s will. + So this year, God, I pray to have the grace to let it be done to me according to your grace. (Internal image: me buckling my seatbelt and taking a deep breath with a confidently nervous smile 😬) #amazinggrace #graceforthemoment #oneword #grace #lisieux #sttherese

Prayer today from my patron saint, St Thérèse of Lisieux for her intercession to help with my journey of faith and in doing Gods will in my life. 🙏❤️ #sttherese #littleflower #prayer #guidance #godswill #faith #journey #picture #art #roomdecor #cushions #2019 #madeforgod

Late post! Beloved! (Reading time: 3 minutes 6 seconds) In the last 50 years, there has been a shift in how we try to be better. We have passed from 'character ethics' to 'behavior ethics.' In other words, instead of trying to be good, we try to behave well. "Sounds the same to me!" You might say. Well, it is significantly different, and I give you an example. What do you prefer? A doctor who is good or a doctor who appears to be good? Two very ... very different things! It is trying to find shortcuts in life, tricks or lifehacks. According to behavior ethics, it is a matter of trying to improve the optics, perception, our appearance, the external manifestations, gestures, attitudes, and our 'likeability.' To the point that we have made of 'fake it until you make it' something to live by. Sadly, social media is feeding the culture of appearance; to look happy, to seem we are having fun and to give the impression of success sometimes is more important than to actually being happy, having fun and being successful. Today is the Baptism of the Lord, and today we meditate upon the 'character' received by all of us through baptism; please note that it is not an appearance - external- but a real and profound character -intrinsic - that makes not only appear good but makes us good. Think 'makeup' versus 'makeover.' Jesus is baptized to sanctify the waters of Baptism, so much so that in the waters of Baptism that we not only become Christians, but we become Christ. We become what he is; a 'beloved' child of God. This extraordinary 'character' - this love of predilection - means that I am not broken, that I am not a mistake, that there is nothing intrinsically wrong with me, that I am not a fluke. St. John Paul II said more poetically: "We are not the sum of our weaknesses and failures, we are the sum of the Father's love for us and our real capacity to become the image of His Son Jesus." Two objections may arise; why do I sin then? And; why do I feel bad about myself sometimes? The word “little” is my word for 2019. In no small way, it was suggested to me by St. Therese on New Years Eve. While in adoration at this quiet monastery, who she is the Patroness of, the word came to me and I knew it had a place in my heart for this upcoming year. There’s plenty that is unclear in my future and even more that I want to control. So now more than ever, I must remain little. I must forget myself in all things and just choose love — love like St. Therese loved. ⁣As well as be loved like she allowed herself to be loved. Always was she a child at heart, letting the Father console and guide her. In so many ways, she is an exquisite example and I encourage you all to read her story. She never disappoints. ⁣ ⁣ “Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.”⁣ ⁣ - St. Therese of Lisieux #catholic #sttherese #littleway #jesuschrist #christianity #humility #love #sacrifice #communionofsaints #romancatholic #little

Saints had their betrayals and heartaches too, even the Little Flower. When Therese of Lisieux learned of a girl in Paris who had supposedly left a Satanic cult for Catholicism, she wrote to her and sent her a photo of herself as Joan of Arc. But this girl was a hoax. A con-man had made her up to ridicule the church. And at a press conference where he revealed his scheme, attacking and mocking the church, he also showed a projected large version of Therese’s own photo and quipped it had been taken in a convent. One member of the press remarked, “What convent? It must have been his own house!” Imagine Therese’s horror! She had been mocked, used to ridicule the church and duped by a hoax. Often you might be attacked or ridiculed for your faith, especially on social media. Many might comment to attack you, ridicule you, mock you, or have other nefarious reasons. Therese rose above this embarrassment and even penned a poem about it. And of course, she soon became a saint and doctor of the church! You will fall often and fail even more. You will sometimes think you have two left feet and are achieving nothing through your endeavors, but you never know how God is leading your journey. He sees the whole timeline. Trust in God and where He is leading you. When you feel any such hurt, do not give up, rather, go to God. Give it to God. Remember it is not for prestige, treasures, likes, followers, retweets, shares, or the praises of millions that you serve Christ. Don’t get lost in the worthless fantasies of the world’s promises. Those fantasies are the Con-man’s scheme. Rather, it is for Christ alone. It is for serving Him and caring for your neighbor. Never forget why you serve God.

. #santaterezinha #flordocarmelo #sttherese #poesia #alma #cathotic #soulstory #flower #lisieux

Love proves itself by deeds, so how am I to show my love? Great deeds are forbidden me. When I was a young girl, I always wanted to be attractive. I was known as the smart kid; definitely not the pretty one. And honestly, being smart wasn’t even all that fun. • There would be classmates who made fun of me for being teacher’s pet. Others made snide remarks about the grades I got. • I didn’t like being different, and in 3rd grade, I lied to my teacher about 4th grade reading being too hard because I wanted to stay in class with all the other kids my age. • At some point in high school, I made a subconscious decision to not be at the top of the class. • Friends - not school - became my priority. While I still did well, my desire to be like everyone else was much stronger than wanting to perform at a level that I was very capable of. • Danggit. If only I knew better, right? Lessons on mental toughness would have been REALLY helpful. Self-sabotage is the worst, and it’s SO hard to recover from. • I had to come back to one of my favorite St. Thérèse quotes today because I felt the ugly duckling syndrome rearing its...uhhh...ugly head. • I literally have to tell myself everyday that different IS beautiful because all the messages I heard growing up from basically everywhere told me otherwise. • This is why I fell in love with “Story of a Soul” – the autobiography of the Little Flower from Lisieux. I cried when I first laid eyes on this passage, realizing at 24 years old the deeper truths God wanted me to discover about not only myself but all the other “little flowers” roaming the world searching for purpose, meaning, and love. • So in its entirety, here are the words of the greatest Saint in modern times...reminding us all that the Father made each one of us to come into full bloom with a unique kind of splendor and glory. • "I understood that every flower created by Him is beautiful, that the brilliance of the rose and the whiteness of the lily do not lessen the perfume of the violet or the sweet simplicity of the daisy. I understood that if all the lowly flowers wished to be roses, nature would no longer be enamelled with lovely hues. And so it is in the world of souls, Our Lord’s living garden.” – St. Thérèse of Lisieux

Answer two questions for me, would you? Which fruit did Adam and Eve take? "An apple!" You would probably say, but do we know that? The Bible never says an apple; it just says 'a fruit.' It is funny how we repeat things, and then we assume them to be true. Second one: how many Magi visited the newborn King? "Easy peasy, three!" Do we know that? The Bible states the some Magi went to see our Savior; it never says there were three. It is funny how we sometimes assume some things, and we think them to be true. Today we celebrate a wonderful feast filled with meaning and symbolism - the Epiphany of the Lord. Some many beautiful things to contemplate, but because of our context, I would like to draw our attention to a subtle yet meaningful gesture, not from our heroes - the Magi but their nemesis: Herod. Herod refuses to go out and worship Jesus. On the contrary, the Magi went out of their comfort zone to meet the Christ and Herod who had the Messiah in his 'backyard' so to speak, did not go out to see Him. As it usually happens, the evil king even lies about his intentions. This attitude of Herod reveals a profound truth - something that is not heard from the mouths of the Magi but seen in their actions: a real disciple of Jesus not only acknowledges the Messiah; he or she goes out to meet Him. Just acknowledging Jesus' existence is not enough. The gospels show countless times how many demoniacs professed their 'faith' in Jesus. The devil firmly believes in God, it just that he won't worship Him. True discipleship is revealed in concrete and tangible worship. Remember that when Jesus was tempted in the desert, the evil one wanted Jesus to worship him - the anti-religion. Thus, being a true disciple is about - as the Gospel of John tells us - worshiping God "in spirit and truth." The Magi and their journey reveal the pilgrim nature of being a follower of Jesus. A believer, yes but also a pilgrim! In other words, we need to profess our faith with our feet - through our actions like the Magi! on 10.19.97, St. JPII spoke the following: “Thérèse of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face is the youngest of all the "Doctors of the Church", but her ardent spiritual journey shows such maturity, and the insights of faith expressed in her writings are so vast and profound that they deserve a place among the great spiritual masters.... But how can we fail to recall here what can be considered its high point, starting with the account of the moving discovery of her special vocation in the Church? "Charity", she wrote, "gave me the key to my vocation. I understood that if the Church had a body composed of different members, the most necessary and most noble of all could not be lacking to it, and so I understood that the Church had a heart and that this heart was burning with love. I understood that it was love alone that made the Church's members act, that if love were ever extinguished, apostles would not proclaim the Gospel and martyrs would refuse to shed their blood. I understood that love includes all vocation.... Then in the excess of my delirious joy, I cried out: 'O Jesus, my Love ... at last I have found my vocation; my vocation is Love!'" This is a wonderful passage which suffices itself to show that one can apply to St Therese the Gospel passage we heard in the Liturgy of the Word: "I thank you Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes" (Mt 11: 25).” - St. John Paul II proclaims St. Thérèse a Doctor of the Church. — 🌹 two new stickers celebrating these heavenly friends who have sung such truth and love and beauty into our souls. 🇵🇱 — Find them in the shop!! 🙌 www.santaclaradesign.etsy.com #catholicartisans #jpii #marymotherofgod #catholicstickers #projectblessed #instacatholic #zelieandco #verilymoment #totustuus #catholicfaith #lifeteen #focuscatholic #thelivingperson #avemaria #churchpop #shopcatholic #philotheafound #catholicetsy #rosary #sttherese #stjohnpaulii

One of the best gifts my girls received are these beautiful dolls from @dolls_from_heaven . ⁣ ⁣ In Colombia, the tradition is that the Child Jesus comes to give the children gifts while they are at Christmas Mass (usually Midnight Mass) and leaves them under their pillows on the bed. Since my Mom is Colombian, she incorporated this into our Christmas celebrations, and it is one that I so loved as a child, I wanted to continue this tradition with my children. ⁣ ⁣ I like the gifts to be religious in nature as much as possible, and what better gift than to convey the message to your little ones that we are all called to Sainthood and there are many who have gone before us to show us the way.⁣ ⁣ When I came across this company, I was so excited to see they offered Saint Therese, my oldest daughter's favorite (she's like her Mama!)! My second daughter is named after Our Lady, so Mary of Nazareth was perfect for her. This wasn't a gift they asked for or even knew existed, but seeing their faces light up when they found them under their pillows...priceless. They are so happy with their dolls! I wish I had one of these when I was little! My daughter also thought it was so cute that Baby Jesus gave her a doll that came from Heaven as it said on the box. 😉

It has been a trying week here and I have a quiet evening, so I figured I’d clear off my desk and design. This is just what I needed in this moment—some quiet creativity and time to ponder with Mary. 🌹💜 . The shop is still closed until January 15, but get excited for some gorgeous new rosaries!

Today is the birthday of the great St. Therese of Lisieux She reminds us that 'those who humble themselves will be exalted' An inspiring story from her autobiography ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ ----------------------------------------------------------- 'A holy nun of our community annoyed me in all that she did; the devil must have had something to do with it, and he it was undoubtedly who made me see in her so many disagreeable points. I did not want to yield to my natural antipathy, for I remembered that charity ought to betray itself in deeds, and not exist merely in the feelings, so I set myself to do for this sister all I should do for the one I loved most. Every time I met her I prayed for her, and offered to God her virtues and merits. I felt that this was very pleasing to Our Lord, for there is no artist who is not gratified when his works are praised, and the Divine Artist of souls is pleased when we do not stop at the exterior, but, penetrating to the inner sanctuary He has chosen, admire its beauty. I did not rest satisfied with praying for this Sister, who gave me such occasions for self-mastery, I tried to render her as many services as I could, and when tempted to answer her sharply, I made haste to smile and change the subject, for the Imitation says: "It is more profitable to leave everyone to his way of thinking than to give way to contentious discourses." And sometimes when the temptation was very severe, I would run like a deserter from the battlefield if I could do so without letting the Sister guess my inward struggle. One day she said to me with a beaming face: "My dear Soeur Thérèse, tell me what attraction you find in me, for whenever we meet, you greet me with such a sweet smile." Ah! What attracted me was Jesus hidden in the depths of her soul—Jesus who maketh sweet even that which is most bitter.' _____________________________________ #catholic #jesus #france #sttherese #littleflower #catholicchurch #saints #saintoftheday #holiness #love #christian #ilovegod #ilovejesus #kindness #carmelite #normandy #smiling

2019: let’s keep it curious! — “I find myself fed without knowing how.” -St. Therese of Lisieux — This past year was such a journey + there aren’t many words to describe all the ways I truly felt God’s grace. I look back in utter disbelief at the year which He totally carried me through. From a summer full of adventures beyond my dreams and a semester full twists and turns and half-hearted efforts to stay afloat, it was by God alone that I found myself fed without knowing how. I will continue to marvel at this Beauty as the New Year begins and we get ready for #seek2019!#bissisterhood #happynewyear #catholic #joyfilled #colorful #acolorstory #mycoloradventure #jpii #sttherese
