Deep breathing is also a essential part of Pilates so here is some information on two types of deep breathing used in Pilates. Diaphragmatic Breathing- This is deep-belly breathing where we bring the breath all the way into the body allowing the belly to expand with the inhale and deflate with the exhale. Diaphragmatic breathing is a “best practice “ breath for life in general. Lateral Breathing: In lateral Breathing the air is directed into the sides and back of the rib cage. The ribs expand outward and upward, like the handle of a bucket. In pure lateral breathing the belly moves very minimally. A benefit of lateral breathing is that it promotes mobility of the ribcage; which can help with the strengthening and flexibility of the spine. Pardon the strong language, but I’ve had enough lately with all these sites telling me how I need to act, where I need to be in my life, what I should think, etc. I’m over it. No...that’s not it. I’m not over it. If I was, I probably wouldn’t be posting about it. Maybe it’s a result of the holiday season where singles get bombarded with extra pressure to justify their #singleness at every holiday gathering, but honestly I’m tired of reading about how wonderful your coupledom is this Christmas. I’m sick of people awkwardly shifting to my career when I show up alone to yet another holiday party. I’m sick of them wondering out loud why I’m still single. “Maybe if you...” or “Well, it will happen in time” or “I’m sure it will” is just yuck by now. I know I sound bitter, but this is my time of year when these expectations that all singles be coupled up get to me. I’m sure many of you feel the same. I don’t care about the world’s expectations. I have enough trouble with my own. God and I have plenty of conversations around those, believe me. Because no matter how much I know it’s #histiming and all that, I’m totally human in my struggle with impatience. I don’t need the rest of the world piling up their own expectations and showing off for me. I wish I had more advice for all the #christiansingleladies out there besides to #gotogod with it, but I don’t. It’s what we do. Well, that and #takeadeepbreath and try not to bite everyone’s head off. Just know you’re not alone. We all struggle. And it is stinkin’ rough this time of year.
