1 Day 21 Hours Ago

Things are moving along with the oak table. After the kids went to bed last night I was in the zone and got a good upper body workout lifting the heavy boards to machine to size. My new planer blades got a knick in the first hour (joys of woodworking 😫😭), but progress feels good and these boards are gorgeous! #commisionedwork #oaktable #rawwood #theprojectlady

I like having legit products, especially good quality but decided rather than buying snake skins for my hammock I would make them. Glad I did - link in comments for tutorial. #hennessy #hammockcamping #snakeskins #diy #tutorial #sewing #theprojectlady #easypeasy

New tutorial is up! Make your own iPad mount for the back of a car headrest. Seriously easy and way better than the plastic one we had that broke too soon! (Link in comments) #diy #tutorial #sewing #theprojectlady

What saved this whole remodel for me was the last finishing touches. Steel wool is better than sandpaper at smoothing out finishes, especially in the crannies of trim. I wasn’t digging the high gloss paint on the hardware so the steel wool worked to distress them. TIP: The pad disintegrates in your hand over time and leaves a mess of metal fibers but it’s easy to vacuum! The other product that saved me was a tub of #pastewax - the finish was matte and dry before brushing it on, now the color is vivid and the finish is smooth and soft to the touch (TIP: helps wood-on-wood drawers to glide without catching!). #chinahutch #furniturerefinishing #theprojectlady

I had to fill in a lot of spots on the #chinahutch. The previous owners screwed several types of door catches on that weren’t necessary and really distracted from the design. It also looked like the bottom had been sitting in poor conditions because the veneer was chipped and peeling (swipe for pictures). Even though the veneer inside the base wouldn’t be visible, I’d be haunted if I didn’t do something about it. My idea was to glue and nail boards around the inside. The outside was rough as well and the best thing to do was add new trim, not only to cover it up but to also strengthen the structure and prevent further issues. #theprojectlady #furniturerefinishing

It might sound a little over the top but I went to bed last night feeling a little sick to my stomach thinking of all the time I put into this China hutch because I wasn’t happy with how it turned out. Luckily I woke up refreshed and ready to work a little more. I’m OK with the end result but wish I was HAPPY about it. One thing I’ve realized is that I don’t enjoy refinishing furniture (the before and after pictures is what I love most NOT the process) and that I should be more selective when I buy antiques - this thing was in worse shape then I realized and wasn’t going to be a simple “one coat and it’s finished” kind of deal. I’ve also learned that being a perfectionist and wanting to do things right doesn’t always mix with my impatience. 🤗😬#lifeisalearningprocess #chinahutch #furniturerefinishing #theprojectlady

I love when projects get finished! I built these sewing machine bases 11-months-ago and they’ve been teasing me ever since to put a finish on them. It only took me ONE day and now they can get off my mind and make room for other things. #freedom #antiquesinger #singersewingmachine #theprojectlady (link in comments)

When a girl decides her tools need to be upgraded, it sure is awesome to have a husband who will leave work to help 😍😍 Random fact: The saw came out of a local professional cabinet/furniture shop @arrowhead here in Raleigh! I sold the guest bed and made my “sewing room” an official sewing room. I couldn’t be more happy! It’s amazing how years of thrift store shopping, Craigslist shopping and garage sales can pull together to create something that I love so much. I hope to sew more now that I won’t have to rummage around in the dark attic through bins to find what I need. #feelingspoiled #myspace #sewingroom #theprojectlady

Day 3 of Serger Project = Finished!! This was a big project I’ll tell yeah but I’m so happy with how it turned out! Scroll through to see some before and after pictures and I’ll post a video of it running once I get the machine adjusted just right. #unionspecial #39500fw #industrialoverlocker #serger #theprojectlady #nowineedtocleanup (it’s BAD!) 🤭

Day 3 of Serger Project: I drained the old oil and re-filled with new - the oil hadn’t been cleaned out in a while because you can see all the metal gunk that had built up on the magnetic cap. I bolted everything together and installed the new servo motor, fixed tensions and made a little wooden extension for the presser foot pedal (the chain was rubbing on the motor). #unionspecial #industrialserger #restoration #rebuild #theprojectlady #mybackhurts

Varathane where have you been all my life!? I ordered a bunch of these stains from #homedepot and got them a few days later. They are going to be a game changer for me. Day 2 of Serger Project: I worked on cutting and shaping the table top opening, filled all the holes that weren’t necessary on the old pieces I’d be using, sanded all the pieces and drilled holes for bolts. #unionspecial #industrialmachine #renovation #theprojectlady

Day 1 of Serger Project: I spray painted parts of the serger head to make it look nicer, cleaned the guts as best as I could, assembled the tension pieces correctly and perhaps one of the most exciting parts was using a tiny paint brush to color code where each thread goes (cause let’s be real.. threading this thing is no joke)! #unionspecial #industrialserger #theprojectlady

Day 1 of Serger Project: I worked on a new table top all throughout the day. I first started by machining some 2x4’s and 6’s then cutting biscuit slots and glued up. Later I used my crappy hand plane to clean up the surface. Lastly I cut off the ends and sanded. #unionspecial #industrialserger #theprojectlady

Welp.. the color didn’t turn out very well because it has a green undertone to it (swipe to see) so I’ll have to add another layer of color later on 🤦🏼‍♀️ #itdoesntalwaysgoasplanned #coloristhemoststressfulpart #coffeetable #theprojectlady

It’s been a busy day! So excited to have everything pretty much sanded and ready to go... just waiting for glue to dry so I can cut away the drips. My latest project, and beyond proud of this baby. Sophia's Birthday is a few days away and I wanted to gift her something special made by me. I worked tirelessly on this baby for a few months, and on my spare time. I worked on the cuts, measurements, paint and I even got to work with plaster. I had no idea how difficult it was to work with plaster, but I did it. Hoping my princess enjoys her bed for a few years. The bottom part where you walk in, I installed a tv so she can watch her favorite shows. it also has a vanity with her "play" makeup. The castle also has lights inside and on the shelves. It has a beautiful slide and stairs. To many more projects. 🙌🏼❤️#theproject #theprojectlady #princessbed #princesscastle #sophiep
