Dinnie Walks! I originally decided that I didn't have enough energy to train today then I decided that I needed to change that mindset 🙂 Clip 1 - 180kg/138kg (318 kg, 701 pounds, in total) x 4 metres. Clip 2 - 180/138 x 3.4 metres. Clips 3, 4 and 5 - some of the very light warmup exercises that I did. Eagle-eyed observers might've noticed that I used something-like-a-hook-grip on the heavier side for the two heavy sets. It's the first time that I've done that. My client @redeyetechguy working hard on his deadlifts. . . As with a lot of my clients, I started Arpan out with kettlebell deadlifts from the top down; really focusing on getting a good hip hinge. We then moved on to the high handled position on the trap bar; focusing on getting into a good start position and keeping it throughout the movement. . . Currently, we’ve moved him to the low handles, but slightly raised with 10lb plates. You can see that his start position is decent, but still could be tightened up a bit. . . That being said, it’s within a safe range to still deadlift. I don’t find it necessary to eternally keep someone at very light weights until their form is absolutely perfect. There’s a range of acceptable form where we can still push the weights up, within reason, while he works on his mobility to help get himself in a better start position. . . The range of what is acceptable form is going to be different for everyone. I access the movement as a whole and factor in where they are feeling it and where any soreness is the next day. . . Got some gym time today. 2nd workout for the day. 1st was outside cardio this morning. This #75hardchallenge is interesting. I’m not a great powerlifter. I don’t build muscle or strength easily. If I had to pick the style of training I’m most proficient in, it would probably be calisthenics and light to moderate weight with moderate to high reps. Put me in a bootcamp scenario, and I will be top of the class. But in powerlifting, I’m definitely an underdog. . Instead of letting that defeat me, it only pushes me to dig deeper. I truly do love building strength, even if I have to work *really* hard to do it. . You won’t always be good at certain things, especially in the beginning. But as they say, practice makes progress. And progress is paramount to evolution–on both a personal and societal level. One of the best views is looking back to see how far you’ve come. . So I’m here, doing trap bar deadlifts, which recruit more of your quads than a traditional barbell deadlift. The idea is to work on my leg drive (instead of defaulting to pulling with my back, which I often do) in hopes of improving my squat and deadlift. Bands are great for activation, burnouts, and cueing your body to fire muscles that might not be active during a movement due to compensation patterns or a misfiring of your kinetic chain. - I place the band around my legs to cue myself to push out to engage the glutes (or “dat big fat butt”, that comment makes sense if the sound is on in this video). After being a nightmare week dealing with wisdom teeth removal give wrong, it was good to have online clients @matthollier and @patrickdooley_1 trek out to @plusfitnessbelmore for some squat and trap bar deadlift work. Some minor tweaks to their technique and the weight was moving easily. Had them both moving smoothly with their squat and up to 100kg for reps on the trap bar without breaking a sweat. Building their base level strength in order to add some muscle. I took a week rest before starting my 2nd transformation challenge. Last week I tried to get all my food cravings in which I think I kinda overdid on scheduling to eat out everyday 😂 . Empty gym means I got to hog the weights and push for a PR on trap deads. My goal is to lift 415lbs (all the weight in my gym and I weigh 155lbs) Today I got 400 for 2 reps. Had to resort to using a belt for the first time in forever but my back has been cranky the last couple of days and I didn’t want to take any chances. Next step will be 400 w/o a belt.

💀 Why should you use deficit deadlifts? 💀 . Deficits are a great way to start a training phase (for someone with already half decent movement ability). . The deficit where you start with your feet up higher on a platform, increases the range of motion of the lift. . A greater range of motion can contribute to longer time under tension, more muscle hypertrophy and strength over a bigger movement (particularly leg drive off the floor as it’s emphasised). . Then when you return to lifting from the floor, it feels easier and stronger because it’s shorter. . You can do deficits across all kinds of deadlifts. Conventional, sumo and this hex bar variation as well. . Start your next block with 3-6 weeks of deficits, and see how it carries over into your regular lift.
