Ecuador: the country where many men have longer hair than mine. In the Quichua belief, men's long hair represents their connection to the history of their land, their roots. At the same time, it reminds of the sun's rays, generator of life. So much is the long hair appreciated, that in the Otavalo region, a law was passed, requiring the parents' written permission for each underage boy, who wants to cut his hair short. _____ #ecuador #quichua #otavalo #ecuadorianculture #ecuadorianmen #discoverecuador #travelandlearn #longhairmen

To make the purest source Manuka Honey, @comvita_nz keep their hives way, way off the beaten path, deep in the heart of the Kaimanawa Ranges. A location so remote, can only reach by helicopter twice a year.

Tadeusz Kościuszko: professional revolutionary, international war hero, & all-around Good Dude • I wasn't surprised that this statue represents Tadeusz Kościuszko. Having learned about him in Wrocław, I knew he was famous in Poland for his titular role in the Kościuszko Uprising of 1794, an attempt to free Poland from Russian control. What DID surprise me is that a duplicate statue exists in, of all places...Detroit, Michigan. Huh? Yeah, turns out he's ALSO an American Revolutionary War hero, and kind of a cool guy. • So Kościuszko was a young Polish man living in France when, in 1776, word began to spread about the American Revolution. He went, "hey, I like revolutions," got straight on the boat to America, and joined the Continental Army. He was so good at doing war stuff that he was only injured once in his seven years of American military service, when in 1781 he took a bayonet to the butt. 😬 He also literally did not get paid at all until AFTER the war (seven years later), so you know he wasn't in it for the money. Dude just really loved a good revolution. • Kościuszko went back to Poland in 1784, did his whole failed uprising thing there (I covered a bit of that in a previous post), then ultimately returned to America in 1797. This time he somehow became BFFs with Thomas Jefferson (thanks for the No Explanation on that one, Wikipedia), whom he made executor of his will. They wrote letters back and forth for the rest of their lives and Jefferson called him "as pure a son of liberty as I have ever known," which is probably American for "yeah, he's a good dude." Actually though, Kościuszko WAS a good dude. In his will, he stipulated that his American estate should be sold and the profit used to buy freedom for slaves (including Jefferson's), as well as the necessary education for them to lead independent lives afterward. Also, earlier in his life, as a "lord of the manor" in Poland, he had limited the male peasants' obligatory service to two days a week and completely exempted the female peasants, despite his own financial difficulties at the time. He also argued for full citizenship rights for Polish peasants and Jews. A pure son of liberty, indeed. •

Day 4: My Nuclear Family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 ______ (This is not my family but @wallandheart ‘s cute fam. Don’t you love all their fun prints?) ______ I (@travelinfam) am so thankful for the closeness of my nuclear family. In fact, one reason I was looked forward to being back in Indonesia after our extended home assignment was so we could be together without all those lovely American activities. I love to see the closeness of my children and I hope the relationship that they are building running barefoot through the rice padi will last them a lifetime. 🌱 What is one of the blessings of life overseas has done for your nuclear family? #expatsgetaftergrateful

Inle Lake is one tourist attraction you don’t want to miss out on when visting Myanmar. Located in the Western Shan State is home to the famous floating villages and gardens. I myself, did a one day tour and was able to visit locate Red Lotus weaving worships, silver smiths and cigar makers to name a few. Not to mention the bustling Nan-Pan Market where locals and tourists collide making a very opportunistic photo site to visit, especially, if you’re into street photography. 📸 •📍Inle Lake, Myanmar 🇲🇲 — Myanmar, you are igniting the feeling of excitement for travel and wonder that was lost for a little bit. — Photo taken with @NikonCanada D750 with 24mm-70mm — #ktchntravels #travelblogger #myanmar #travelphotography #travelphotographer #lensbible #lensculturestreets #lensculturestreet #lensculture #lonelyplanet #inlelake #discoverytravel #travelgram #documentaryphotography #travelguide #inthafisherman #nationalgeographictraveler #natgotravel #passionpassport #blogtravel #incredibleplace #experiencetheworld #travelandlearn #worldtravels #worldtraveller #travelforlife #natgeotravel #natgeo #thephotosociety

The White Cliffs of Dover built up gradually over millions of years. They are made from chalk, a soft white, very finely grained pure limestone, that was formed from the skeletal remains of minute planktonic green algae that lived floating in the upper levels of the ocean. When the algae died, their remains sank to the bottom of the ocean and combined with the remains of other creatures to form the chalk that shapes the cliffs today. Over millions of years, the seabed became exposed and is now above sea level. The resulting edge of chalk is the iconic White Cliffs of Dover. #uk #dover #whitecliffs #history #nature #stunningnature #beauty #beautyofnature #amazing_shots #travelphotography #traveladdict #travelling #english #coast #travelista #mindfultravel #travelwithpurpose #travelandlearn #travel2learn #noworries #peace #hapiness #explore #discover #learn #fascinatingnature #natureaddict #relax #hiking #travelguide

Day 445: WHEN I LEARNT ARCHERY WITH TRIBALS . This is the first time I tried wearing a dhoti in my journey. I missed it in southern India but I got the chance in Chattisgarh. . Archery has been a great part in tribal lifestyle since ages. This is how they kill wild boars who come to destroy their rice plantation. The bow and arrows are made of bamboo. Arrows have one sharp iron object in the front and 5 wings of a bird at the back which helps arrow to swing and make it fast. Even the string of bow is made of flexible bamboo. . Dantewada town has given me many eye opening stories about naxalism and tribals as well as the education. I happened to visit many Hamlets in chattisgarh and the condition is still like stone age. I got my mosquito net and a charpoy to sleep with an open sky with a clearest view of stars and galaxies. . In this particular Hamlet people are living with minimal lifestyle which is healthier than our city lifestyle. There is no place for milk, sugar, salt and refined oil in their food which makes their lifestyle naturally healthy. . Food is totally organic which our city generation can't even think of. They have a good habit of not drinking water during or after meals. They have a fine drink pez which is made of starch water and corns and some pulses. Their innocence and their wealth with the minimalist life is not comparable with the growing urban life. . #indiaonmycycle #minimalism #organic #archery #chattisgarh #bastar @unexploredbastar #archeryhunting #nomadtribe #naturephotography #travelislife #travelandlearn #discover #natgeotravel #gopro @goproin @gopro @kangervalley @natgeotravel @lonelyplanetindia @outlooktraveller

Much of York’s layout is the result of Roman and Viking construction but one iconic feature is distinctly Norman. The original mound of Clifford’s Tower, with a timber structure at the top, was constructed by William the Conquer in 1068 as a statement of his power over the region. This building stood for just over a century before being burnt down in one of York’s bloodiest and tragic moments, when, in 1190, 150 Jews were massacred on the site. “I run across the world exploring the different native traditions, I study with indigenous peoples from north to south, from east to west. They teach me about the simplicity and depth of life, about nature and its elements, about planet Earth and its directions. In all those journeys and immersions in the Amazonian Forest, on the Himalayas, in the Mexican lagoons and Balinese islands, I’ve had the honor of meeting great guardians of ancestral knowledge that have taught me a lot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Water is an element that inspires me a lot, and my passion for it grows bigger each day! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was lucky enough to learn from the leaders of the Hopi tribe, of the water clan, from strong women of the Diné and Lakota tribes, founders of the Standing Rock movement in the United States, from prayers and healers of the Mexican waters, from the Cofane tribe in Colombia, protectors of the lagoons, rivers and headwaters. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I studied aquatic therapy, and each time I practice or receive therapy, I develop a deeper understanding of the water’s message, its subtlety, tenderness, strength and healing powers.” Terra @raizdoser ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We are so grathefull to have Terra with us in our next journey in Thailand, sharing her work ‘Raiz do Ser - Root of the Being’ and wisdom. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Meet Terra on our next journey Oceans and Flow ‘Thailand – Moken’ and live the transforming practices of Yoga, Janzu, Dance and a Water Ceremony. Colosseum, the grandest amphitheatre one can ever witness in the centre of the city of Rome and esp if you are this die hard fan of Russell Crowe and the Gladiators, this structure comes live in front of you like a movie where they combat for the sake of entertainment and watch wild animals fight and witness the killings of hundreds and thousands of them gladiators and animals ~ so thrilled to visit this iconic symbol of imperial Rome. Then the Trevi Fountain, one of the most famous fountains in the world runnung from the oldest water sources in Rome. No trip to Rome is said to be complete without throwing a coin in the Trevi Fountain to ensure that you will return to Rome in the near future - so Ciao hoping to see this magnificiant country again sometime in the coming years 👍

The Marches Des Esclaves was the earliest monument built in Guadeloupe to celebrate the abolition of slavery. The monument pays hommage to several ethnic groups including Kongo, Bamileke, Peul, Wolof and Yoruba. Through conversations with people we met in Guadeloupe, it was evident that slavery has had a lasting impact on their identity and relationship with Africa.
