Follow me @ifightformma Growing up in the state of Louisiana, Daniel Cormier found his love for wrestling. He was a natural athlete, that even received a scholarship offer to play football for the Louisiana State University. DC refused the offer because he wanted to continue to wrestle. He competed across the world, continuing to hone his craft. After the 2008 Olympic Games, DC came to a crossroads. He was done competing as a wrestler, but was not ready to be done as an athlete. Above everything else, DC is a true competitor. He lives for competition. In September of 2009, DC made his professional MMA debut. He trained at the American Kickboxing Academy where he worked alongside Cain Velasquez. DC was a natural athlete, so he picked up on striking fast. DC rose to prominence, after he won the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix after entering the tournament as an alternate. Though he had great success at Heavyweight, DC vowed that he would never compete against his friend Cain Velasquez, so he decided to move down to the Light Heavyweight division. He had his eyes set on Jon Jones. After going 15-0, DC finally earned his right to challenge Jones for the Light Heavyweight title. He came up short, losing the fight by decision. Troubles outside the Octagon left Jones stripped of his title. The UFC ordered a fight for the vacant title between DC & Anthony Johnson. At the time, Rumble was destroying everyone in sight. Many thought the same would happen to DC. However, DC found a path to victory, securing the Light Heavyweight title. DC continued to fight & defeat the best competition as the Champion. When Jones returned to challenge DC in a rematch, he finished him. However, the decision was overturned due to a positive PED test for Jones. DC received his title back, but many still did not give him his respect as a Champion. After defending his Light Heavyweight title once more, it was announced that DC would move back to the Heavyweight division to challenge Stipe Miocic for the title. After coming 4th in the Olympics, after being called a paper Champ, DC silenced the critics when he finished Stipe Miocic to become the undisputed Heavyweight Champion. He i

Follow me @ifightformma Before BJ Penn had even made his professional fighting debut, many had high hopes for him. Martial arts seemed natural for BJ, as he was able to learn faster than his peers. It took him under three years to become a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt. After earning his black belt, BJ became the first non-Brazilian to win the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship. This earned him the nickname “The Prodigy”. He was an outstanding Jiu Jitsu practitioner, but how would he do in an actual fight? In May of 2001, BJ made his professional MMA debut at UFC 31. As good as he was in grappling, BJ looked even more promising as a complete fighter. He finished Joey Gilbert in his debut in one round. He then showed off his striking against Din Thomas in his second fight, by knocking him out with a knee. In his 3rd fight, he finished Caol Uno in just 11 seconds. BJ Penn was for real. After falling short in his first title fight against Jens Pulver, BJ continued to run through his opponents. In January of 2004, BJ moved up to the Welterweight division to challenge Matt Hughes for his title. As good as BJ was, it seemed impossible to stop Hughes. Hughes was on a 13 fight winning streak and was the most dominant Champion the sport had ever seen. Not only did BJ defeat Hughes, he finished him in the first round. BJ Penn became the UFC Welterweight Champion and proved all of his supporters right. BJ left the promotion after this fight, as he wanted to compete across the world for other promotions. The size of his opponents did not matter to BJ Penn. He even moved up to the Heavyweight division to fight Lyoto Machida. He just wanted to scrap. BJ later returned to the UFC. His first fight back in the Lightweight division was against Jens Pulver, who was the man that handed him his first career loss. BJ avenged his loss to Pulver, by finishing him in their rematch. It was in January of 2008, when BJ Penn defeated Joe Stevenson to win the Championship that he had strived for when he entered the sport. He won the UFC Lightweight Champion, becoming only the second fighter in UFC history to win two titles in two weight divisions.  BJ Penn was exactly what many expecte
