😂😂 If this isn't the truth 🤷🏽‍♀️. Some of our 'snacks' have more calories than our main meals 🙆🏽‍♀️ and many of us don't even know this. They maybe healthy snacks, but we could be eating more than we should and right there lies the problem. . . For example, nuts are one of our favourite healthy snacks but if you think you can't go wrong with them, these tiny delicious treats will show you what they're made of 😂. Same thing with their butters. They're all very calories dense and can cause weight gain but are still healthy snacks. This is the same with most healthy snacks. So the key is to always snack smart to avoid weight gain👌🏽. Also, always make sure your snacks actually leave you feeling full and satisfied enough to wait for the next meal and not hungry for more. . . Learn to track your eating habits too. Sometimes we don't snack out of hunger. It's that time of year when holidays are coming up! ☀️😎✈ I've done a few posts on this topic recently as I'm away at the moment. Because I travel so much, I avoid going all out on holidays. Now, if you are heading away for a week or two and train hard or eat well all year, well then why not take the break and let go! There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, and some people need the break! This post is just to share my top tips for those of you who want some advice on how to enjoy the holiday without completely letting go! 😊 I am currently on week 3 of my trip in Asia, and all of these have worked amazingly well for me! I have gotten lots of messages and pics from people who are away and using some of these tips, so keep them coming if you do! I love to see them.😁 My usual approach on holidays is: ▪I try to stick to a 70:30 approach. •I try to keep my eating healthy for 70% of the day (breakfast, lunch and snacks) and then for dinner I have whatever I fancy (usually including dessert). •I generally stick to poached eggs, omelettes etc. with yogurt and fruit for breakfast and something light for lunch. ▪ I bring a bag of low cal snacks with me to graze on and throw a few bits in my handbag for on the go e.g. the popcorn bars, sugarfree sweets, popcorn, low cal crisps, sweet chili crackers etc. I also bring one of the summer fruits squirty things for my handbag and drink it with sparkling water to keep me hydrated. ▪Walk, walk, walk I always try to keep my steps up when I am away. Obviously if you are taking a week or two away from your normal hectic routine, it is nice to chill out, but little things like taking the stairs, walking to restaurants & just being active when the option arises is a great bonus when you are away. 🔥Circuit training 🔥 . Follow @dancudes ! . Circuits are one of my favourite ways to train in terms of strength and conditioning. They are fun, challenging, and can really get your heart rate up and burn hundreds of calories in a short period of time. I'll do circuits or HIIT training 1 to 2 times a week to keep my conditioning up, stay fit, and to stay lean. Usually when I do circuits, I go based on time as opposed to reps, but sometimes I give myself a number of reps I must complete and for each exercise and see how long it will take me to complete the entire workout. What is awesome with circuits is that you can either do bodyweight circuits or weighted circuits and with the latter, the weights do not and really shouldn't be all that heavy. Notice for both these examples, I give a large rep range as some people will only be able to get the minimal amount of reps and others probably more than the maximum and both are great. The goal is for you to set a goal number of reps per exercise per round and crush it. I also have a 30 second rest interval though that can go up or down as needed. Remember, form is everything. Even if the circuit takes you longer, form must be perfect and full range of motion or you're just wasting time. Secondly, these only serve as examples and should be adjusted to your fitness level. Neither option is good or bad, ❌this post IS NOT saying don’t pick the bliss balls, it is simply highlighting that the VOLUME of the two options is dramatically different for the same calories and almost the same nutrients. ⠀ If you have a larger appetite and you are leading a more sedentary lifestyle (research says that’s most of us), you are likely better off selecting the same calories for a larger volume, as it will keep you feeling fuller for longer. ⠀ Then again maybe 6 bliss balls will keep you full and satisfied for hours? Who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️ Do what works for you! In the end of the days that’s all that matters right? ⠀ ⠀ If you have either a smaller appetite or you are more active or have increased energy needs. The bliss balls will serve you better! ⠀ Snack smarter - means different things to different people. It is about getting a better bang 💣for your calorie buck💸 for some people that means a larger volume and for the others it means a smaller volume and that’s ok! (SWIPE RIGHT!) ⠀ There is no such things as a one size fits all approach with nutrition. I read an article today about process (habits, decisions, actions) vs outcome (weight etc) based goals and it made me realise that outcome based goals of losing a certain amount of weight was something I had become fixated on over the past couple of weeks. I still struggle with getting away from my negative relationship with food and found myself stepping on the scales each day last week seeing if the number had gone up or down 🙄 this is definitely not good for anyone’s mental health! . Tag a friend 😍 Credit 📸@lauragfit Progress is often not linear. 📈⁣ ⁣ Just because you take a small step back, doesn’t mean you have to give up and take large strides back. ⁣ ⁣ I subconsciously used to let any setbacks make me give up. 🙈⁣ ⁣ If I was injured and not working out as much, I’d end up eating terribly. ⁣ ⁣ If I fell off track, I’d continue to fall off track for months because in the back of my head, I felt like I had ruined things which would make it SO difficult to get refocused. ⁣ ⁣ 😬 Then I would try and make up for it all by restricting myself, which would backfire and I would fall off track even MORE. ⁣ ⁣ When you’re in a situation where things are not as good as you would like them to be with your routine, and you feel like you just can’t get things to go your way, 😫remember that ITS OKAY!!! ⁣ ⁣ It happens to all of us. ⁣ ⁣ It’s a lifestyle, and naturally there’s going to be times in life when you’re not making as much progress with fitness because sometimes life does gets in the way! ⁣ ⁣ That’s WHY it’s a lifestyle. 😊 It’s not an extreme routine that you can only keep up sometimes when things are perfect. 🧐⁣ ⁣ It fluctuates and changes just like your daily life does! ⁣ ⁣ Even if you’re only doing 50% of what you usually do, it’s still better than doing 0%! ⁣ ⁣ If you at least maintain where you’re at or only go slightlyyyyy backwards, it’s a whole lot better than completely falling off and having to start all over again at square one. 🙌🏼⁣ ⁣ So remember- do what you CAN do and put your best effort into it, but understand it’s COMPLETELY NORMAL to not be 100% all the time. ⁣ ⁣ When I finally understood this (after YEARS of struggling) I was able to stay on track SOOO much easier because I realized things weren’t so all or nothing 🤗⁣ ⁣ YOU GOT THIS AND YOURE GONNA KILL IT THIS WEEK! 😁💕😤 . Sugar-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, oil-free pancakes by @feelgoodfoodie ! 🥞 - 🥞 What’s left? Healthy, hearty and heavenly strawberry pancakes! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ INGREDIENTS 1 cup rolled oats ¼ unsweetened almond milk ½ cup mashed banana 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar 1 tablespoon baking powder ½ teaspoon cinnamon ¼ cup sliced strawberries, plus more for serving Maple syrup, for serving INSTRUCTIONS 1. In a blender, add the rolled oats and blend until the oats become flour-like. Remove the oat flour from the blender and set aside. 2. Add the almond milk, bananas and apple cider vinegar to the blender, and blend until the mixture is smooth with no big lumps. 3. Transfer the oat flour to the blender. Then add baking powder, cinnamon, strawberries and pulse a few times to combine, being careful not to over blend. 4. Heat a nonstick griddle over medium-low heat. Spray with coconut oil cooking spray or leave the pan dry. 5. Pour 1/3 cup of the batter into the hot griddle. Place the sliced strawberries on top. Cook for 2-3 minutes, until small bubbles start to form on the top and the edges firm up. Flip the pancake and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the pancake is cooked through. Repeat for the remaining batter. Makes 4 pancakes. 6.
