If I could summarize my initial reaction to this version in one word it would be this: Progressive. . Why? . It includes less dairy and less meat because there is even more evidence to support the benefits of plant-based eating. . Industry was not invited to be part of the consultation. That's right. Prior versions allowed industry (🐔🐮🥛) to weigh in and influence our national eating guidelines. #hellobias . It encourages us to integrate mindfulness into eating by considering not only what we eat, but why, when, where, and who we eat it with. . It encourages us to drink water over other beverages (including juice). . I've been practicing as a Registered Dietitian long enough to remember the last Canada Food Guide launch in 2007. I remember feeling uncomfortable with the guidelines. Me staring into space thinking of how amazing it feels to be wearing an entirely ethical outfit. . . and dreaming about the @champsdiner my sister and I were about to eat. Ethical fashion is still something I’m not perfect about, but am trying to work on in 2019. When it comes to trying to live an ethical, sustainable lifestyle, fashion is one of the main offenders after animal agriculture. I will admit though that I have found it harder to make the transition than I did going vegan. New ethical fashion is fairly pricey and can be obscure at times, and thrifted clothing can be very hit or miss, especially when you are in need of a very specific item. The outfit I am wearing took a lot of time and work to accumulate, and I think that is the approach to have to building an ethical wardrobe. It defeats the purpose to throw out all your “unethical” clothing and build a whole new wardrobe! So you just need to focus on replacing things as you need them. The coat I am wearing is from @forallkind (thank you for the recommendation @happyandhealthy96 !) and it took me 2 years to save up for. The bag is @matt_and_nat_ and it was a Christmas present from my parents, as was the @unitedbyblue hat. The shoes are from @willsveganstore and I didn’t eat out for 3 weeks to pay for them. My socks are a splurge from @vvogue_co , my sweater is thrifted and I’ve had those jeans for over 4 years from before I even went vegan. This outfit took time, money, and searching for companies I wanted to support, but believe me it’s worth it and hopefully proves ethical fashion doesn’t mean you have to look frumpy.

Many foods and drinks that are marketed can contribute too much sodium, sugars or saturated fat to our eating patterns." * Focus more on whole foods and not into specific macronutrients (carbohydrates, fats, proteins) and not on specific micronutrients (milk= calcium or meat= Iron). 🌱turmeric hummus🌱 Now this will blow your mind if your looking to put a healthy spin on your homemade hummus 🥳 so simple but affective!! 🌱canned chickpeas (400g) 🌱2 cloves of garlic 🌱1/3 cup of pine nuts 🥜 🌱1Tbs lemon juice (fresh) 🌱2Tps of tahini 🌱pinch of Himalayan salt 🌱2Tps of turmeric 🌱1tps ground cumin 👨‍🍳pre start your blender, add chickpeas, garlic, pine nuts, turmeric, ground cumin, lemon and tahini, start blending on a low setting add your pinch of salt, and table spoon of water to get the right consistency (thicker is always better)! Hummus is my go too condiment I’d eat it with nearly everything, but adding the turmeric really gives it something else and the benefits that turmeric possess is incredible!! STEP 6/ DAY 6 30 STEPS IN 30 DAYS TO DISCOVERING WHOLEFOODS 🌱 Everything around us has a vibration which is an energy source that lifts us up or an energy source that pulls us down making us feel weak. These vibrations have known to be measured. Every ingredient we buy, store, and eat carries with it a high vibration or a low vibration. Foods with low vibrations make our bodies feel tired, drained, bloated, sluggish, and unwell. These foods are processed foods, fast foods, sugary foods. Don’t get me wrong even I have a weakness for chocolate but I’ve learnt to eat foods that are better for me. I prepare raw treats such as protein balls or raw cakes and I eat more fresh fruit or dried fruit. Foods with high vibrations are your vegetables, fruits, lentils, legumes, nuts and seeds basically everything plant based that is unprocessed, unrefined, organic, raw as close to its natural food state. We are so fortunate to now have a health food store in the Upper Hunter Region of Scone that is also online at www.thehunterwholefoods.com if you have your own fruit and vegetable garden that is so awesome otherwise find a local farmers market in your area. Wash your vegetables and fruits in our enagic water which removes dirt, and toxins otherwise apple cider vinegar in water also helps to clean your fruit and veggies. Now I’m not entirely living a plastic free lifestyle but I’m trying my hardest to move forward in that direction. I feel that everything takes time but what I have started doing is one week without packaged foods and than one week with packaged foods this works great for us. Couldn't wait til FRYday so I'm hitting you with one of my summertime holy grails a couple days early... it's KUMARA FRIES🍟😍 (or sweet potato fries for those of you not in NZ!) 💁🏼‍♀️✌ Unpopular opinion alert:I ain't a big fan of potatoes... DON'T HATE ME!🙊 Never have been, but sweet taters on the other hand - I would have them errrryday😋👌 They're the best super easy and healthy snack, nourish bowl addition, summer bbq plate or just for whenever you're feeling like a big ol' bowl of fries💁🏼‍♀️✌ Just wash and chop the kumara into fries, lay out on a baking tray with a thin spread of evoo, sprinkle and toss with paprika, salt and pepper and bake in a 200°C oven for 25-30 mins, removing to flip after 15 mins. Serve with your favourite dip, sauce, guac or hummus! ENJOY!😍👌

The thing that always catches my eye in the caf cabinet is SAVOURY MUFFINS 🧀 Since they’re vegan like 0.07% of the time, I thought I’d try a veganisation (definitely a word, don’t look it up, just trust me)👩🏼‍🍳🤗 Such a good lil on the go breakfast or a protein-filled snack! 💪🏻 • • ➡️ INGREDIENTS: DRY: • 1 c chickpea flour • 1/2 c cornmeal/extra fine polenta • 1/4 c tapioca flour • 1 TB nutritional yeast •s&p, garlic, mixed herbs • 1/4 tsp baking soda • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder WET: • 1 grated carrot • 1 grated zucchini • 1 onion, chopped • 1 c @sogoodnz almond milk • 1-2 TB liquid aminos • 1 TB apple cider vinegar • @angel.foodnz dairy-free cheese for the top • ➡️ METHOD: 1. Combine all dry ingredients. 2. Squeeze liquid out of carrot and zucchini 🥕🥒3. In another bowl, combine all remaining wet ingredients (incl carrot and zucchini). 4. Mix dry ingredients into wet and portion the batter into a muffin tin. 5. Sprinkle with vegan cheese 🧀 6. So I had kind of a weird dinner - 2 slices of bread, 2 tbsp hummus, 1 yellow bell pepper, 1/2 spinach, and red spicy quinoa, then on the other slice of toast spread 2 tbsp almond butter, 1 banana, and 1 tbsp maple syrup, this was so good highly recommend!

For a snack today I made Rawnola balls - 2 cup of oats, 4 dates, and 1 tbsp tahini and it was so good and a healthy snack !

Lately I've been giving my morning oats a protein boost by adding some @botanikablends plant protein powder. It's a great addition to ensure that you're getting adequate protein and specific amino acids, on a plantbased diet. It also makes this meal more satiating and tasty!
