I love to visit places where nature slowly but certainly has started to reclaim it's belonging. I guess it portrait the fragility of life in it's essence, and it always makes me feel a bit like I'm traveling in time. So why not travel back to 2005, where canopys of Bollingers vineyards flourished. . . Bollinger "Grande Année" Brut Champagne 2005 70% Pinot Noir from Ay and Verzenay 30% Chardonnay from Mesnil, Avize and Chouilly Disgorged in February Kept on lees with cork instead of cap. . The bouquet opened up very appropriate with beautiful notes of white flowers, honey, red apples and melon. It is very distinctive to me, and I think it goes through bottom to top of Bollingers portfolio. The palate is super well balanced, with, crispy acidity and mature fruit, and it has a heavy felling in the mouth. It has notes of pineapple, brioche, banana, almond and juicy grapefruit. The maturity is starting to come around, but in the beginning of a long life. I had the same '05 two years ago, and time has certainly worked in advantage. Mas Sinén Negre 2010 by family run winery Celler Burgos Porta from Priorat, Spain, is an eco-certified blend of Garnacha (40%), Cariñena (23%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) and Syrah (17%) that spent 12 months in french barriques. The wine shows intense flavours of dark and red fruit as well as notes of herbs, spice and balsams. Overall, the aromatic profile is very typical for a red wine from this region but the flavours are delivered with an amazing freshness, last but not least thanks to their purity and the perfectly measured acidity. The high ABV of 15% is very well hidden. Very good QPR. Only 6000 bottles produced.

#4to7 larking about in #london with a new batch of Grower #champagne! This is the Cuvee Festival Brut by Leguillette Romelot from Charly-Sur-Marne. 56% Meunier, 7% Pinot Noir, 7% Chardonnay, 22% Pinot Blanc, 6% Petit Meslier and 2% Arbanne with 10g of dosage. Only 4,499 bottles produced every year! Review to come soon but we're reliably informed that this is another cracking aperitif Champagne from @champagneleguilletteromelot. 6 grape varieties are present of the 7 allowed in Champagne with only Pinot Gris missing. It is very rare to find a Champagne with this composition and we are very much looking forward to the tasting!

2015 Occidental - SWK VineyardPinot Noir (94 pts) @occidentalwines · · 🙋‍♂️ How much do you know about the term Millerandage❓· · ℹ️ Millerandage (aka Hen and Chickens) is an irregular fruit set, where the grapes are not of uniform size. Some berries will be normal size while others will be smaller. This is largely due to poor (cold and wet) weather conditions during flowering. The main issue this causes is a lower yield. This is a problem for many grape varieties, but for Pinot Noir it can improve the overall wine quality due to a higher skin to juice ratio, which provides more color, aromas, and flavors. The SWK vineyard is at the top of the ridge (750 ft) facing southwest, exposing it to the cooling winds coming off the Pacific Ocean. The result is the highest percentage of Millerandage and lowest yield at Occidental vineyards. Around 30% whole cluster fermentation· · 👁 Medium ruby color· · 👃 Medium+ intensity on the nose. Aromas of raspberry, red plum, men's cologne (musty), stemmy, floral, rose, and earthy· · 👄 The wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium spicy tannins, medium+ alcohol, and medium+ body. An almost grainy texture to the wine with a lot of extract. Flavors of cinnamon, cologne, rose, red plum, raspberry, and earthy. The earthy and floral notes continued onto the medium+ length finish· · 🔔 The biggest of the 3 wines tasted, but this was completely in balance. Loads of concentration, great acidity, and a compelling flavor profile from fruit to flowers to earth. I would snap this up and sit on it for 5-7 years. Today everything just adds up! Standing with a couple of friends, on top of the world, with the warmth of the sunset coming from behind. With a panorama view over the calm ocean, and just in reach of a open bottle of Opus '99, that I really have been looking forward to. Probably half of my face is a smile right now. . . Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend 1999 84% Cabernet Sauvignon 7% Merlot 5% Cabernet Franc 3 Malbec 1% Petit Verdot . The opulent bouquet opens up quickly, with only little time of air in the glass. Beautiful notes of vanilla, oak, cherry, figs and dates, and some smoky edges. Extremely well balanced elements. The palate is super well balanced as well, showing fully integrated tannins, with notes of black tea, herbs, cherry and blackberry, and a very long finish of spices and coffee. Powerful, full-bodie and smooth at the same time and it could easily go for a meal by it's own. It's at a beautiful spot right now, and I think it will stay on top for several years to go. This is a truly lovely wine, just up my ally. I was lucky to have a Mouton Rothschild '99 six months ago, and taking in consideration the joint venture between Baron Philippe Rothschild from 1.cru chateau in Bordeaux and Robert Mondavi Napa valley, they actually share many similarities, even though both wines flourished on different continents.
