I struggle with balance. I’m not talking about the juggling of all life responsibilities kind of balance. I’m talking about the “I might fall over” kind of balance. I can share stories upon stories of falling down. From my childhood through my 20s I couldn’t get through a summer without scabbed knees from falling. In my 30s it turned into 12 stitches on my knee on one occasion and a broken foot on another. I just labeled myself clumsy. I once even asked a doctor if I had an inner ear problem. It's Fitness Friday! I went to the gym today and worked on my fitness....cue that Fergie song I can't remember!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love Yoga! When I'm in the mood for a little Zen focus and a more meditative practice or when I'm just needing a good stretch. Yoga it is.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here are some of the amazing benefits of fitting a little bit of Yoga into your exercise regime, as experienced by me and I'm sure countless others:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Stress Release- after class I am so much more relaxed. My shoulders are a little further from my ears and my breath is more calm and regulated.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Energy- since meditation is a large part of the yoga practice, I tend to come out of the hour long class feeling refreshed and energized! With a more clear mind, I am able to get back home and tackle the to-do list!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Stretching- when my muscles are feeling sore and torn from yesterday's Leg Day...Yoga is a great alternative for me to working back (which I hate) or skipping the gym altogether.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. Savasana- or NAP as I like to call it. I use to really dislike this part of Yoga. I felt anxious to hurry up and go about my day once the physical part of the yoga practice was done. Now that I have two kids and live life in a constant state of exhaustion, I really do look forward to this pose. Although it can be very difficult to stay present and relaxed, if done, I wake up from it feeling as though I had a little cat-nap!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 5. Feeling Accomplished- you know how proud you feel of yourself for making it to the gym on a Friday after already gymming it multiple times during the week?...well that's how Yoga makes me feel also. Like I truly did something amazing for myself that day! Getting back into the flow of things today. Yesterday was just a continuation of the roller coaster ride of the day before LOL. - - Getting up on that stage the other night was the biggest fear of my life, and it took all of the energy that I had to get up there and spill my guts. Unless you study yoga philosophy and/or read the yogic texts you are likely to wonder how some yoga poses got their name. . Like lord of the fishes. Or half lord of the fishes as I am doing here. . In brief (very brief!): according to ancient tale, Hindu deity Shiva was on an island, explaining the mysteries of yoga. A fish near the shore remained motionless and listened with attention. When Shiva realized that the fish had learned yoga, he blessed it as Matsyendra, Lord of the Fishes. The fish then took a divine form, came on land, and assumed a seated spinal twisting posture that allowed him to fully absorb the teachings. . The pose is said to provide important benefits. It increases spinal rotation, boosts blood flow to the disks, and builds strength and flexibility in the erector spinae muscles, the tiny muscles that support the spine. . It also nourishes the internal organs by increasing circulation to the stomach, intestines, and kidneys, while the shoulders, hips, and neck get a wonderful stretch. . Comment here or use #yogacreationmums Many of the breathing techniques learned during pregnancy yoga will now help new mothers to find a sense of inner space and calm and to steady the mind, and will also be calming for the baby, who will recognise his/her mother’s breath and respond positively to it. Full yogic breathing is one of the most effective ways for new mothers to restore balance in their nervous systems after the shock that childbirth (even the shortest, easiest, most natural and active births) will cause to a woman’s body and mind. If the birth was particularly traumatic then there will be an even stronger need for women to begin healing through the use of pranayama and other yoga relaxation and gentle asana practices. Golden thread breath can be helpful as a pain-reliever if there are post-birth pains or nipple pain from breast-feeding. And the practice of post-natal breathing is essential in helping both the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles to heal. All deep breathing will help to promote and aid deeper relaxation, better sleep and will lead to a greater release of oxytocin, helping with both breastfeeding and bonding between mother and baby. Immediately after a hospital birth, full, deep yogic breath can be very beneficial in helping a woman to fall into a much-needed deep sleep amidst all of the noise and disturbance of the hospital environment. (Full yogic breath encourages women to breath in from their abdomen, up into their rib cage and chest and then to down through their body on the exhale, feeling the abdomen, rib cage and chest fully expanding with breath on the inhalation and contracting on the exhale, with the navel and lower abdomen gently moving towards the back body at the end of the exhalation. The breath is experienced like a wave moving up the body on the inhalation and down through the body on the exhalation.)

|WOMENPOWER| Il y a tout juste un mois je découvrais qui était Elodie Garamond. J'ai échangé des mails avec elle grâce à une autre puissante femme @annevandewalleyoga 🙏 pour la mise en place de l'atelier yogatherapie et endometriose au @tigreyogaclub Chaillot. 💝 Je pensais qu'Elodie s'occupait de la gestion des ateliers. Tellement elle était bienveillante et disponible dans ses messages, en plus d'être touchée par la cause pour accepter de diminuer le tarif de l'atelier, valider la présence gratuite d'une représentante d'association...Mais non c'était bien la LA fondatrice et l'une des pionnières en France des concepts(un même lieu pour faire du yoga/pratiques douces, manger, s'habiller, lire, se doucher, faire garder ses enfants et même faire une pause hammam au Tigre-Lyon...)...5 studios Tigre à son actif et des ouvrages. BRAVO pour ce processus de parcours. ❣ Alors lorsque je la rencontre et qu'elle me prend dans ses bras après mon atelier sur l'endometriose... Et qu'ensuite c'est avec la puissante @charlottesaintjean que je discute du yoga et de sa belle pratique...Il y a comme un souffle(prana), une énergie magique durant ces moments suspendus qui est moteur... ❣ J'ai senti ce week-end du 15 mars, entre les moments partagés au @womenspiritfestival, mon atelier et la mobilisation mondiale des femmes malades(grâce à ce mois de mars dédié à la sensibilisation autour de l'endométriose)... Comment l'energie sacrée de certaines femmes pouvaient guider d'autres femmes subtilement (via des regards, des sourires,des câlins, des mots, la guidance...) vers leur propre chemin de puissance féminine ... ❣ RDV l'année prochaine pour la 4ème édition du WSF. Does anyone else struggle with insomnia off and on? Last night I got (maybe) 3 hours of sleep, woke up to a rainy day, and all I wanted to do was curl into my covers and listen to the rain... But alas.... Children... So I got up, got everyone fed and my oldest to school and promised myself that I could get away with just 15 minutes of exercise... If and only if I really made those 15 minutes count. So I did 15 minutes of straight strength and spine mobility. It's funny, on the days that I struggle the most to get on my mat, I reap the greatest benefits. My lungs are open, I'm energized, and though I know I'll inevitably crash (no one can survive on that amount of sleep) I'm not grumpy. 🙌 Here's to praying my little one naps today so that maybe I can too 🤞... Not likely...

Yogi Tip: You don’t have to be completely upside down to get the benefits of inversion. Anytime the hips are higher than the heart, we experience a reverse of blood flow to the head. Downward dog can even be a great inversion by itself! Inversions can improve circulation, lymphatic drainage, and balance the body’s energy. . . What’s your favorite way to invert?? 🤸‍♂️

Wide legged forward fold is one of my go to poses/stretches for when I feel my back or legs getting tight. It also relieves your neck of pressure by allowing it to hang down☺️ My personal experience: One time when I first started practicing yoga I was in this pose and I had my hands interlaced behind me. when I let my arms and fists fall forward, to help open my chest, I felt my upper body and neck realign.
