Next up on my list for certifications is becoming a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. The goal is to pass the certification exam over the college winter break. When I first started this health career journey, I wanted to become a Strength and Conditioning Specialist. I started studying on my own and realized how much I didn’t know. I decided that I should get a degree in exercise science to help with all of the complex information and processes. From there, I decided to become a personal trainer first. I thought my background as a Marine Corps Officer and a personal trainer would set me apart from the crowd. Then I realized how many trainers are out there. I was introduced to the Wim Hof Method and knew that I needed to become an instructor after meeting Wim. That process took almost 2 years to finally finish. In the meantime, to deepen my practice and understanding of the Wim Hof Method, I decided that I should become a yoga instructor also. I completed the year-long Yoga Works certification over the summer and added one more notch to my resume. I will complete my degree in exercise science in May. And now it’s time to finish what I started and become a Strength and Conditioning Specialist as well. There are a lot of people out there who are “a” something... a trainer, a yoga instructor, a lawyer, a doctor. I don’t want to be “a” trainer or “a” coach. I want to be “the” trainer and “the” coach that people turn to when all other coaches can’t get the job done. Fuck mediocrity. Be limitless.

✅ can it be anymore true ! .... 👉Yesterday in class we, again, practiced a crow pose. One of the most difficult to the beginner yogi and one of the most gratifying poses to a regular practitioner. I watched my students struggle yet have fun. 🦋If you ever think to yourself, I could never balance on my arms like that. I say to you: just give it a try for a month and let's talk again . You will be more than pleasantly surprised with yourself. 🤸‍♂️ .... 😝I've been there. Many of my yogi friends can vouch having the same self doubts in the beginning. At the start of my yoga story, way into the adulting, I watched my fellow yogis do all kinds of (what seemed to me) advanced poses. The words from my own teacher resonate with me to this day. “Practice it every day. Practice the crow every day. That's the only way”. That, literally, is 30 seconds a day. 30 seconds ! .... 🔑And so the block in the photo above. I look at it and I see a building block. One block at a time and soon we have a structure. A backbend is an extension of the spine. Backbends can be challenging, especially for those with a hyper-flexible lumbar. To extend the spine well, it’s essential to connect to the earth.✨In this variation of ustrasana, place a blanket in a way that cushions your knees and relieves any sensitivity at the front of your ankles. Place a block between your knees with a bolster up against the wall.✨With your thighs touching the bolster, press the tops of your feet and shins down as you gently squeeze the block with your inner knees, and move your sacrum in towards the wall to uplift your breastbone and open your chest more fully.
