Present vs. Future Focused🛸 Priorities: What’s most important & meaningful in your life today like activities, values, lifestyle, standards, hobbies, etc. that you are not willing to compromise or sacrifice in pursuit of something else, a goal. 🚨 Goals: A future-based, anticipated expectation, end result, or experience that you are working towards creating or achieving which hasn’t yet been realized in the present. 🚨 If you encounter resistance while trying to reach certain goals or perform certain tasks, chances are it’s either something you really don’t want to be doing, like an old goal that may not serve you anymore (a “should”), or you are working from someone else’s agenda (another should). The bottom line is, these goals don’t support your priorities and you’ll continue to feel “off” throughout your pursuit of these misaligned goals. 🎢 At the end of the day, your goals need to be aligned with your priorities. Honor the priorities in your life by making them non-negotiable. Before you map out your goals, determine the priorities in your life that you’re not willing to sacrifice. I was so digging Halo Tops KEYLIME PIE for my little weekend treat if you couldn’t tell. 🥧🤤 If you guys have been watching my stories, you’ve notice I’ve switched over to a Keto diet with my intermittent fasting. To lose weight, you’d still have to induce a caloric deficit but the difference is that the higher your keto-adaptation, the more fat you’re burning as opposed to glucose. There’s a lot of science behind this topic so it’s fun to learn along the way. Like you don’t need to completely cut out carbs, physically active people can get away with eating a bit over 50g of carbs even. But this still depends on the context of the situation – your muscle mass, your glycogen state, your gut microbiome, your carbohydrate timing and even how well you slept last night. The best thing you can do is experiment, look at your results, and then adjust your behaviors accordingly. In this book "The Happiness Hypothesis," Jonathan Haidt explains psychologist Richard Davidson's two types of "positive affect" (good feelings, basically). There's "pre-goal attainment positive affect," which you know as that good feeling you get while you're going after a goal. 😁Then there's "post-goal attainment positive affect." 😒Haidt explains, "You experience this latter feeling as contentment, as a short-lived feeling of release ... after a goal has been achieved." 📈In other words, it truly is about the journey, not the destination. The most obvious way to avoid the post-goal crash is to really cherish the feeling of going after it beforehand, 🏋🏻‍♀️and do everything you can to celebrate your achievement after.🏆🥳 Just knowing this is how your brain works is a big step: If you understand that achieving your goal won't come with a sublime feeling of bliss, you might not be so disappointed when you get it done.🧠 But a not-so-obvious way to keep from feeling like a popped balloon is to KEEP SETTING GOALS, even if they're a lot smaller than the one you're about to achieve. 🤓 This has been a huge thing for me to work on as I struggled through “post-competition” blues and setting smaller goals has helped drive me towards the path of my larger scale goals. I’ve been dedicating a little time after almost every evening workout to some boxing practice. As much as having someone teach me in person would be helpful, I’m trying to maximize the limited amount of free time I have outside of work. And for me that means spending less time commuting to places and just learn from home. There’s so many tools out there now to help make working out easier for people with similar time crunches, you just need to actually plan out the time you’re going to dedicate and stick to it! 🥊Boxing takes so much energy out of you, but even on the days I was tired I managed to get my gloves on for a few rounds AND OMG THE FEELINGS of accomplishment afterwards are unmatched! I feel more confident each day as I pay attention and focus on my strengths and weaknesses. When I say I can’t do a pull up, he helps me with assisted pull ups. When I say I’m exhausted, he tells me to screw the gym and go rest, when I say Im craving sweets he pours me a shaker bottle of BCCAs. Whatever my excuse could be at the time In Or out of the gym, he knows the right solution for me and my goals regardless of whether it means knowing when to take a step back or ahead. This is SUCH an important trait a coach would need to have in order to successfully train someone without making them dread the gym or their diet in order to see results. We ALL have moments of weakness, it’s incredibly easy to talk ourselves out of doing something, that’s why we should all have someone with an outside perspective of our thoughts to help guide us when we need it, even the pro’s need it! 😉 It’s a unique dynamic. We may yo-yo up and down, we can have annoying breakouts, we can point out things about ourselves no one else would notice everyday in the mirror, but what’s the point in bringing down our moods and self confidence with all of that?
