After an Emergency Declaration was issued by the Pikangikum First Nation due to several forest fires burning in the immediate area, nearly half of the 4,400 residents of Pikangikum, Ontario have been evacuated. Four C-130 Hercules aircraft along with one CC-130H aircraft from 17 Wing Winnipeg evacuated people from Pikangikum to Sioux Lookout. Our #dash7, C-GUAT aircraft then moved them to other communities that were prepared to host the evacuees. This photo was taken in Sioux Lookout and shows boarding passengers headed for Cochrane, Timmins, and Kapuskasing. We are grateful for all of the responders who are assisting the community during this challenging situation.

Many people associate the Aurora with cold and snowy winter scenery. However, the most active seasons are actually autumn and spring when the earths orientation towards the sun maximizes the probability of solar flares.
