Runnin’ into the weekend like 🏃🏼‍♀️😍 • 7 miles on plan ✅ Another heavy, muggy day but thankfully cooler. The legs felt lighter than Thursday too which was nice. 4 muggy morning miles ✅ • Plan called for 5 but I needed to get back before my crew woke up so I’ll do an extra one tomorrow. • Felt good this morning! Tested my @spibelt H2O bottles and they were awesome! As a hippier girl (who is also got some baby belly leftovers right now) I have struggled to find the right kind of belt style water bottle because they either slosh or bounce or are in uncomfortable fixed positions. Wearing these on my Venture belt were a dream-no bounce, fully adjustable, and didn’t pull the belt down into uncomfortable positions. Not an ad, just love to give an honest opinion! 3 miles on plan ✅ • A nice check in kind of run to take stock of where my body was at after this weeks race. Other than a bruised and scabby knee all systems were a go tonight and I thoroughly enjoyed my loop around town before getting the kids to bed. • I have also been loving my new @spibelt Venture. I used it for the half last weekend and that waterproof pocket definitely helped keep my phone nice and dry through sprinklers, sponges over the head, and ice bags down my top! (And the thicker band was a little more comfortable on a long run for my thicker waistline too 😉) Looking forward to trying out the water bottles on my next run! • And finally, big thank you for all of the encouragement and love on my last post. #transformationtuesday • I remember feeling so discouraged after my race 4 years ago. I’d changed up my pre run routine that morning and it did not go well. Having to walk/shuffle the majority of the back half of the race and getting passing comments like “oh you can’t be walking now, you’re practically at the end!” destroyed my confidence. I remember shuffling with tears in my eyes and thinking I would never run another race again. That I didn’t belong there. I had trained so hard all summer for that race, and when I didn’t deliver what I thought was my best effort, I immediately disqualified myself as a runner. I don’t even remember my time, just that I wasn’t proud of myself, even though I had still finished my race!! I let too many external influences break me down when I was struggling instead of focusing on what I had accomplished. I hung up my shoes for a long time after that and now feel saddened by how many miles I missed out on because I thought I didn’t belong. • Now for my race last weekend. Saturday didn’t go to plan for me but I still feel proud for gutting out a race that had me driving the struggle bus. Those familiar doubts kept shouting at me after I took my fall but running that race was never about my time. It was to be a training run in the midst of a bigger goal and I only wanted to do the Paavo because it was my hometown race. A hard and humid summer time half is never going to be easy for a girl who struggles in the heat! I would have loved busting out 13.1 miles at planned pace but I feel better for playing it smart so my training for my full isn’t halted and for still finishing a race that was really important to me. Live to fight another day, right? I still have some work to do on my mental toughness for sure, but now I know that I belong in any race I train for, no matter what. Faster times and PB’s will eventually come, but I think this transformation of not counting myself out based on other’s performances instead of my own efforts is by far the most important lesson I could learn on this journey to 26.2 and in life. #halfmarathon #fitness #irunthisbody #running #loverunning #thisgirlcan #runnersofig #runnersofinstagram

First Paavo 1/2 Marathon ✅ Not the race I was hoping for-the humidity got the best of me and I was wobbly by mile 6 when I took a nasty digger on some gravel, splitting my knee open and jarring my shoulder. Between impending heat stroke and a bum leg I pulled back my efforts to mostly walking to prevent further injury. I was sloooooow, but I finished! And that was my only goal! Huge congratulations to all the runners who braved the humidity and sun today! 5 steady eddy miles and some late night #mondaymotivation • Tonight felt so good! Really feeling strong right now and though I know the race this weekend will be hilly, humid and hot, I know I will get it done 💪🏻Nothing like a big ole shot of confidence boost just when you need it! • Also loving my motivational shoe tags that arrived today. My why and my mantra with me for 13.1 miles. • Growing up I was always inspired by the “flying Finn” and the annual Paavo Nurmi marathon in my hometown of Hurley, WI. My mom was the race director for much of my childhood and I volunteered at the finishing line handing out ice and running finishers tags back to the results table. I can see the finish line from my childhood bathroom window! But as a child I never thought I would ever be a distance runner. So even though it’s just the 1/2 marathon I’m tackling, I’m so excited to toe the line on Saturday and run the roads I grew up on! 3 miles at sunset 🌅 • I’ve been feeling off my game after three days off, heavy legs and crummy short runs last week and a missed long run this weekend due to life and scheduling. • A quick scroll through my IG feed shows I’m not the only one wondering where their mojo and routine has gone. Maybe it’s the incessant heat, or summer time living, or the full moon last week, or just a plain old, weird, rough couple of weeks for a lot of us, but with my 1/2 marathon next weekend I needed some #soulrunning in the sun to reboot my mental game. • Mother Nature sure delivered tonight! Treated myself to a new route with fantastic views and felt that old familiar joy stirring under all the other junk of life. I will never, no matter my pace or the distance, not love what running does for me 💖 • If you’re feeling out of whack with your training or goals, I recommend an easy going session to reconnect with whatever it is you love about whatever you do. 13.1 miles in the bag!! They were slow, it was a grind, and there was a near catastrophe with a 💩in the 11th mile but I got the job done! • By only 3 miles in my legs felt wasted so I just kept breaking it down into 1.5-2 mile mental chunks. I walked when I needed to but kept running as much as possible. Slow and steady has been my mantra from day one and it’s working for me and my goals. • Three months ago 3 miles still felt hard and 6 miles seemed impossible. One month ago 6 miles felt hard and 12 seemed impossible.
