🎉🎉MY FIRST FIVE MILES!🎉🎉 • Went out today with the intention of being on my feet for an hour and hopefully that would bring my first 5 miles since giving birth AND I did it! • There was some walking. There was skating on frozen paths. There were some cramps and mild foot pain by the end but I still did it and loved it!! • I laugh that my 5 mile pace is literally twice that of other runners I follow on here. And I so don’t care! They are amazing and inspiring, but so am I in my own way. • 4 months ago I couldn’t run a half mile without it hurting. Almost 3.5 glorious miles of head clearing #soulrunning this afternoon 🙌🏻😭😍 • All the feels for this romp through my favorite trails after a rough day at home with the kids • Running gives me that space to just let it all go. #flashbackfriday AND an update!! • Today marks 18 months since I started this health account. If you have been here since the beginning, THANKS! And if you are new at all, here’s a little backstory to this account. At the time, I wanted a way to keep myself accountable as I worked to lose the 30+ pounds I had gained over the course of a year due to inactivity and hit or miss nutrition. I started a “fitness only” account that was separate from my personal account, as not to bore my friends and family with my weight loss journey. The focus was much on getting back to my old healthy lifestyle, which is why I chose the name “gettinghealthe". • Over the past year and a half my focus has shifted from weight loss (which I achieved), to a healthy, active pregnancy and now back to post partum weight loss, as well as a rekindled love of running. • Even though I am back at almost the exact same starting weight as I was 18 months ago, I no longer feel my initial name fits the scope of this account. I am regularly active, eating well and much healthier in all aspects of my life. I’m not “getting healthy”, I AM healthy (even if it’s at a higher weight currently)! • While this account was started as a tool for accountability, it has morphed into a way to connect with like minded individuals around the world! Most of them runners, (many are mothers), and everyone just juggling all the demands of their days while also working fitness into their lives. Like me! I feel so inspired and motivated to see their accomplishments and cheer them on, even if it is only via the internet. • SO-all this to say-I’m changing the name of this account to move_it_Mama_E! I feel it sums up my journey towards running my first marathon, as well as all the other ways I move my body to stay active and healthy. I’m looking forward to continuing to connect with others and I am so grateful for those I have met through the last 1.5 years! Switched up my upper body routine today with a sweet little circuit from @goodfortheswole (Becky has the best pregnancy and postpartum safe routines!) I love #upperfix from the 21 Day Fix but was in the mood for something different and this set did the trick! Quick and easy while the babe slept away. And now I’ve got jello arms over here 💪🏻 Perfect! • Enjoyed a little Fat Tuesday indulging as tomorrow I’m going sugar free for Lent (thanks for the inspiration @fiona_slimmingworld_diaries!!) Hoping it helps reboot my metabolism a little. Week 6 Day 3 of C25K (again) (sort of)✔️ Tried to get out after a long night with a sick kiddo even though the sidewalks were snowy and black ice covered. It was sunny and I really wanted to be outside. • 1/2 block from home I skidded down a hill and promptly landed on my a**. • Right, treadmill it is, then. • I was fatigued from a long night, and now my butt and tailbone ached from my fall, so I just gave myself the free pass to go at whatever pace felt right, even if walking was needed. That helped me enjoy the entire session instead of mentally kicking myself for the times I needed to slow down. • I’m lucky enough to be able to be active. Week 6 Day 3 of C25K ✔️ (again) Annnnd repeat. Cold and snowy 2nd attempt of this run, still walked for 30 seconds or so about 1.5 miles in but finished pretty strong and I’m overall pleased with that effort. • Calf is still tight but I know that wasn’t the issue tonight. I want to get frustrated over how slowly this process is taking me to get my distance back, because it feels like I’m hardly even scratching the surface for mileage right now. But I know that every attempt to get back out there and just keep trying is still adding up to something in the long run. • I had more than 6 months off from running with this pregnancy and honestly hadn’t been running much distance consistently since the summer of 2016 so I can’t expect to just be able to pick up where I left off without some struggles. (Not to mention the 40 extra pounds I’m still packing post pregnancy slowing me down) • The pounds will come off, the distances will increase, the runs will get easier and the pace will come down. Week 6 Day 3 of C25K ✔️ Yuck. That run was terrible. First mile was pretty solid but shortly into my second mile my calf cramped up terribly and I needed to walk/limp a good 1/2 mile. This will be a repeat run for sure. Hoping this isn’t a bigger issue other than some tight muscles and need for more recovery between runs. Oh well, rest is good too. And it’s a chance to get my water, nutrition and sleep in check as well. Week 6 Day 2 of C25K ✔️ The 28 degree temp for tonight’s run felt downright tropical after a week of sub zero highs! I LOVE winter running at these temps! Week 5 Day 3 C25K (again) ✔️ • This session and I had some unfinished business. Last time I attempted it I had to stop and walk or catch my breath several times. Yes, it was my longest continuous run attempt since I stopped running around my 5th month of pregnancy, but it was my mental toughness that was missing, and that caused me concern. • During that run/walk I started worrying that I really didn’t have what it took to power through the madness that is marathon training. That I wasn’t tough enough. That little voice said “26.2?! YOU? You can’t even run 20 minutes without a break! You won’t do this” • And tonight was starting to go sideways at home with the kids and our schedule and my run kept get pushed back and pushed back and pushed back. • And that little voice said “You are only trying to get out for 30 minutes!! How are you going to fit this in when it’s a 3 hour or 4 hour run? You won’t.” • But I did get out. And I channeled that doubt into energy and motivation and used that as fuel and ran. • Slowly. But I ran. • And when I had 3 minutes left and started to get a side ache, I told myself 30 more seconds. Just 30 more seconds. • And then it was done. 20 minutes. Week 6 Day 1 of C25K ✔️ Did it again-started the app on the wrong day and didn’t realize it until I didn’t have time to stop and restart 🤦🏼‍♀️ • I’ll blame the frigid temps for my brain fart-waited until the “feels like” temp hit 0 since there was a good wind going and I didn’t want to lose my nose 👃🏻❄️ • Managed all the intervals rather easily and within my goal pace range I have been shooting for most runs so at least it was still a quality session, goof up and all • I’ll tackle that session re-do on my next run. Week 5 Day 3 of C25K ✔️ WHEW!! Longest run to date with this program, and it was not my finest (thanks for the help Christmas cookies 🙄😂) • I’ll be redoing THAT session until I can nail it comfortably! 2 miles non stop, I can do it!!! • Looking forward to possibly double digit temperatures in the next few days again and a chance to get outside! 1st Mile of 2018✔️ It was late, I wasn’t feeling great, the kids weren’t going down easily and I didn’t feel like only one mile was worth it * I didn’t want to do it, which was exactly why I had to do it * 2018 is going to be a year of zero excuses. Full Stop ✋ * My goals aren’t coming to me, I have got to chase them down. That’s all there is to it. * One mile at a time....👟 (Side note: Garmin users-Mine didn’t seem to be reading most of my run. I kind of slap dash downloaded everything and set it up, and it wasn’t fully charged yet. Is that a normal inaugural work the bugs out kind of thing, or did I do something wrong in set up?
