Made this pic during my lunch break from jury selection. Kinda captures my state of mind as I await the opportunity to potentially steer someone’s fate. Lots of time to reflect...How many of my ancestors were wrongfully convicted by a “jury of their peers”? What would it have meant to the accused to see my face amongst the jury members? What does it mean to participate in a judicial system that systematically makes prejudgements about people who look like me. A system that too often presumes guilt while erasing the humanity of people of colour? #ambivalence #duty #responsibility #juryduty #day1 #civicduty #civicresponsibility #juryofyourpeers #torontocityhall #toronto

Our existence seems to be rooted, initially, with layers of prejudgement. Only after is our humanity honoured. There are exceptions, of course, but on a systems level, not so much.

The cutest :grinning:
