I’m not saying I had a solo dance party in the middle of the Dempster Highway while listening to @lizzobeeating moments after shooting this photo, but I’m not not saying it. You know? Shot in the land of the Midnight sun, home of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in,Tetlit Gwich’in, Gwich'in, and Vuntut Gwitchin people while on assignment with @travelyukon #exploreyukon

I must have been 8 years old when we loaded the family car for the drive to Grants Pass, intent on a family reunion at my uncles new home. The trip is a blurry whirlwind of sundappled days spent chasing animals and adventure with my cousins, but one night stands out, perfectly crystallized in my memory. The skies had cleared, revealing an ocean of stars. My grandma announced that she was going to sleep outside in the back of my uncles rusty old El Camino and I promptly asked to stay with her. I remember gazing at the stars while she pointed out constellations, her great round belly shining in the moonlight where her shirt had come untucked. It was magical and I felt so safe curled up next to her, the matriarch and lioness of the family. I think of that moment often, especially when I sleep outside in the relative comfort of a car. What a privilege I hold in visiting these places and waxing fondly over memories of them. Shoutout to @toyotausa for this particular magical moment in the brand new #rav4 Limited. I wonder what Grandma Elaine would say if she could see me now. 💕#letsgoplaces

when i was little i snuck down to the river at my grandmas house knowing i wasn't supposed to go alone but i've always had a resistance to rules my heart pumped with a heady mix of fear and elation as i gripped the rope swing preparing for the leap required to swing over bluegreen waters in search of fish or pirates or simply the sensation of wind on my skin the momentum gathered and just when i was meant to fly i slipped and plunged into the icy river suddenly, i was swimming arms and legs pumping a furious tempo until the water released me onto the shore later i sat on a rock in the sun letting the warmth ooze through my bones as i chewed on the idea that i was my own best hero and fell asleep thinking "what else can I do?" . life doesn't always go to plan and that's okay. but if you read that story and saw a girl who failed to fly instead of a young woman who realized she's more mermaid than bird, it's time to reframe. 📍: land of the Niitsítpiis-stahkoii ᖹᐟᒧᐧᐨᑯᐧ ᓴᐦᖾᐟ (Blackfoot / Niitsítapi ᖹᐟᒧᐧᒣᑯ) and Ktunaxa ɁamakɁis people

The hike to Grinnell Lake has all of my favorite alpine things: abundant wildflowers, turquoise water, wildlife galore, and a backdrop of towering peaks. Top that off with phenomenal company and a few freshly-made parking lot PB&J sandwiches and you have my version of perfection! Today my dear friend @gleeabel gave me some wise advice about legacies and sharing where we are with people we love. In a way, capturing moments like this is a part of mine. If I can convey the sense of wonder and beauty I experienced while watching the sunrise, that’s a win. If I can brighten someone’s day, even for a moment, I am happy. What legacy are you hoping to leave behind? Pictured: sunrise over St. Mary Lake in East Glacier, Montana. #sponsored #montanamoment @visitmontana

#sponsored Have you ever slept in a treehouse? It’s been a long time for me so imagine my delight at getting to stay at @mttreehouseretreat on a recent trip with @nickrlake and @visitmontana! It was all the fun and excitement of my childhood with the perks of being an adult: an incredibly comfortable bed, zero spiders or bugs, a steaming hot shower, and fresh brewed coffee in the morning! Next up on the list: figuring out how to build one in my backyard! Have you slept in a treehouse? Would you sleep in this one? I want to know! #montanamoment . . . . . . #ourcamplife #natgeoadventure #getoutstayout #treehouse #theoutbound #goatworthy #optoutside

#sponsored I haven’t watched the sunset from the water in a long time. Watching sparks of light dance from ripple to ripple while a distant thunderhead flickered with lightning made for an incredible show on Flathead Lake. We stayed in our boats until the last vibrant colors washed from the sky, then finished our paddle with hugs and high fives. If you’re in the Whitefish area, I highly recommend a kayaking adventure! Give Mark at @basecampbigforkmt a jingle; he’s the best and he’ll get you sorted! What are your favorite spots to paddle? @visitmontana #montanamoment

#sponsored On Monday @nickrlake, @clumsysloth and I packed our bags after a stunning sunrise over St. Mary Lake and hit the trail to Grinnell Lake. The trail begins in the forest, then winds its way through wildflower-covered slopes, currently bursting with flowers. The higher you climb, the more you’re rewarded with views of Josephine Lake, Lower Grinnell Lake, and the stunning peaks behind them. I could have happily sat at one of the many viewpoints all day, watching the flowers dance in the wind against the turquoise backdrop of the water. It definitely goes down as one of the prettiest hikes I’ve done and I want to go back! What hikes are your favorites? Bonus points for anything on the East Side of Glacier National Park! @visitmontana #montanamoment

I’m generally terrible at picking favorites, but Montana has carved out a space in my heart as big as its famous skies. Yesterday morning we watched the sun rise over St. Mary’s Lake, then hiked into the heart of Glacier National Park, surrounded by towering peaks and vibrant wildflowers. It was the stuff of dreams and I hope you get to experience it someday! @visitmontana #montanamoment #sponsored

#sponsored I wish I had a magical device that could take me back to yesterdays bike ride to Logan Pass on the Going-To-The-Sun road. It will live on in my memory as one of the best days I’ve spent outside, and I have been outside a lot. The ride began in the thick forest with a sighting of a black bear mama and her cub, ambling along the river in a quest for food. We gave her time and space, then carried on when it was safe. The road eventually climbed out of the trees, revealing stunning peak after stunning peak. The light and rain danced between them, treating us to an incredible show. We finally gained Logan Pass, our faces stuck in permanent grins while our quads burned. We snacked, took in the views, and rode off into the sunset, whooping the whole way down. It was phenomenal in every way and I’m so grateful to @visitmontana for the experience! If you ever have the opportunity to go, seize it! You won’t regret it. #montanamoment

#sponsored I’m back in Montana and it feels so good! @nickrlake and I spent our first day exploring the area outside of Kalispell and were rewarded with sightings of baby bison, bountiful wildflowers, elk, birds galore and a gorgeous sunset at Ninepipes National Wilderness Refuge (swipe right for the full pano). I can’t wait to share the rest of our adventure; it’s going to be an amazing week! Have you been to this part of Montana? This morning I had a chat with someone I adore about love and fear. Sometimes, the world calls us to do big, scary things. Sometimes, those things are so far out of the worldview of the people who love us that they react with fear. Instead of telling us to follow our intuition, they ask us to play small so we fit inside their understanding of the world. But as Marianne Williamson famously said, playing small serves no one. When we spend all of our time and energy trying to contort ourselves into pleasing shapes for someone else, we don’t grow. Those shapes may be cast in a vision of love but that doesn’t mean it’s the love you need. If I can offer one piece of advice to you today, it’s this: find the love you need.
