Nashville, TN. Drummer. Guitar Player. Songwriter. @mountainslikewax @westnativetn
“Hold Your Own” is out everywhere today! These are two songs of several more that I am grateful to have been a part of. So excited to see where these songs (as well as others to come) take some of my best friends and people I care about most. Go spin these songs and share with your friends!
I had a blast engineering some drums at my studio yesterday. LMK if you are looking to book some space for a session or content!
Reminiscing on some of the best times with my boys. Some nights this moment felt like flying and other times it felt like letting out demons. @mountainslikewax is about to enter a new era and I’m thankful to have been a part of the journey that will take place for years to come. They have a show Sep. 4th at The High Watt w/ @little.image and @bristonmaroney. You should certainly go and hear them play a couple new songs we created while I was in the band 😊
Dead Drums Pt. 2 - Playing with a drag/lazy feel.
I’m putting on an event for @noisehome tonight at @fortyonefifteen featuring my friend @jaredkneale at 7pm! We will be hanging out with other musicians, producers, and engineers, having some drinks, and hearing about Jared’s journey along with some playing! If you’d like to come, spots are almost full but there’s a few left and you can RSVP at the link in the @noisehome bio!
Dead Drums Pt. 1
@larryfisherman - “Conversation Pt. 1”
Here’s sort of a demo of my new @ludwigdrumshq bass drum. I’m assuming it’s a late 70’s maybe? Still getting to know it. May try different heads, etc. Also, this is the Pin Toy sound in context! Use headphones 🎧 if you care to hear the rumble!
I was messing around yesterday after a @noisehome session and wanted to challenge myself and see if I could get a useable drum sound with mics that were left just sitting in the room (swipe for further explanation of what I mean). I ended up using the mic behind the drums faced away from the kit, the condenser you see in the front of the shot, and the fathead ribbon mic sitting on one of the stands. This video also has made me wonder, do videos sound better on phone when there are fewer mics? It seems like often the iPhone can’t handle the amount of frequencies that overlap from a mix with more mics. Maybe I should start only using a few mics for Instagram videos? Rambling thoughts...
I’m starting to get acquainted with my @uaudio Apollo 8p. Very excited to continue getting know it and learning how it can improve my workflow/sound. Also, using my @slatedigital ML-2 on the snare in this clip. No reverb on this... had a mic all the way across the house in the mud room.
“Yours Truly” @poseypiketn EP is out today! Very proud of @huntercollins2. So thankful to him for bringing this project to me. I had just started learning to record and had never really thought I could engineer or produce something like a full EP at my house. Thank you for instilling the confidence and trust in me to bring these songs to life. It really changed my goals and desires for my future. Anyways, enough with the sappy talk. More than happy to have brought on @mic_mech for mixing and @foster.ferrell for editing. I have a feeling we will make many more records together. I hope these songs make you bob your head, or even bring back some angst you never let go of. Give these songs a spin today!
Reposting this from last summer because I miss playing drums live desperately 😭
Just a reminder, I’m running special pricing for the remainder of July for any remote session work or booking the space for yourself! Special pricing also applies to any future bookings even if they are outside of July, as long as it’s booked in July. Hit me with a DM or an email!
Here’s a recap of the event I held a few months ago at @fortyonefifteen ft. @drumfill! If you missed this one, don’t worry because there will likely be more in the future! A big thanks to @lucaswharton for the video! •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Engineer: @mic_mech Mix: yours truly
Gettin angsty over here. The camera was already shaking a ton so why not put a bunch of cheesy video effects on? Made this little track last night. Made the whip sound by saying “kaaahh” into a mic. Logic amps can sound pretty good and yelling into a distorted mic is kinda fun 🤷🏻♂️
Drum-less section of “Fire” by @spexgram. Love this song. All drums you are hearing are what I recorded. Putting drums in parts of songs that don’t have drums is a good challenge to create your own sound/feel.
As of 2:30am, we finished tracking the new @miletwentyfour EP! The process has grown everyone involved immensely. I know it sounds cliche, but I’m truly grateful to the boys for trusting me to produce this collection of songs. Honored to have my good friend @mic_mech engineering/mixing and not pictured @foster.ferrell and @hannahkosh for putting their unique mark on this EP. Thanks to @fortyonefifteen for providing a unique creative space to make music. Now off to mixing! Very proud of these guys. I can promise you won’t want to sleep on this.
