Every once in a while, you may come across a home in New Orleans with a spray painted “X” on it. But what does it really mean? After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, this was a symbol used to indicate information about the home when it was inspected. Here’s a break down: ⬆️✖️Top quadrant: date that the house was checked ⬅️✖️Left quadrant: signature of who inspected the house ➡️✖️Right quadrant: special instructions that range from “gas off,” “F/W (food or water left), pets or any issues the home may have ⬇️✖️Bottom quadrant: how many people were left in the house. But sometimes...a letter was added to that number. A for alive, or D for dead. Today marks the 13th anniversary since Hurricane Katrina hit our beloved city. The devastation may have brought us down temporarily, but it wasn’t long before the city got back on its feet and came together to rebuild. Zèle sure is proud to call New Orleans home ⚜️ . .
